72 Church and he remarries validly according to the Church’s laws, he may be reinstated into the Order. • A Catholic who is a member of a forbidden, secret society is not a practical Catholic and hence may not become a member of the Knights of Columbus. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS — If a member of the Order is married, he should be a faithful and devoted husband and father. Married or unmarried, the knight should always be an exemplary Catholic gentleman and a dutiful patriotic citizen. DETERMINING QUALIFICATION — Before a candidate is presented for membership, his sponsor should be sure that the candidate possesses and manifests the necessary qualifications for membership. These are then appraised by the admission committee and a subsequent ballot by the membership determines acceptance or rejection. This is in keeping with the lodge system under which the Order of the Knights of Columbus operates. If questions arise at any time during the admission process as to the candidate’s practical Catholicity, the proposer or the admissions committee should consult the candidate’s pastor. SUPREME COUNCIL AWARDS Every fraternal year, thousands of councils throughout the Order qualify for one or more of the awards given out by the Supreme Council for outstanding achievements in programming, membership recruitment and retention and promotion of the Order’s insurance program. The various council awards (Columbian, Fr. McGivney, Founders’, Star Council and Double Star) and the special Contest of Champions, Century Club and Insurance Promotion awards should be eagerly sought by each and every council. Winners of Supreme Council awards are named on or about August 1 of each fraternal year. REFERENCE

Councils who meet all of the above requirements, with 200% or more of the membership quota attained, shall earn the distinction of Double Star. (In order to qualify for any awards, councils must have a minimum of 30 members by the end of the fraternal year, must not be suspended by the Supreme Council office for nonpayment of per capita, Catholic Advertising, Culture of Life Fund or supply charges. For councils in the Philippines, annual council awards can only be won if the council is current in the payment of per capita charges and supply charges to the Philippines National Office.) COLUMBIAN AWARD REQUIREMENTS: 1. Service Program Personnel Report Form (#365) must be completed and returned to the Supreme Council Department of Fraternal Services by August 1. Report #365 is in the Council Report Forms Booklet (#1436) and on the Order’s web site at kofc.org/forms. 2. Council must annually conduct and report at least four (4) major involvement programs in each of the following Service Program categories: Church activities, community activities, council activities, family activities, Culture of Life activities and youth activities. (Sponsorship of a parish Round Table fulfills all four Church activity requirements. Sponsorship of a Columbian Squires circle in good standing fulfills all four youth activity requirements.)
