Munya Mataruse leads this six-piece Zimbabwean based band<br />

who are part <strong>of</strong> a new generation <strong>of</strong> musicians making waves<br />

on <strong>the</strong> local music scene. Specializing in Afro-contemporary<br />

music, lead singer Munya’s smooth, soulful voice is unparalleled<br />

and as a songwriter, his lyrics are deep and thought-provoking.<br />

Munya neKazevezeve skilfully blend Afro-jazz, katekwe and jiti.<br />

Munya Mataruse is one <strong>of</strong> Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi’s protégé’s and<br />

honed his craft at Pakare Paye <strong>Arts</strong> Centre with his mentor.<br />

In his short, but promising career, Munya Mataruse has shared<br />

<strong>the</strong> stage with Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu, Eric Wainana,<br />

Ray Phiri and Oliver Mtukudzi. He has performed at <strong>the</strong> Winter<br />

Jazz <strong>Festival</strong>, Victoria Falls Jazz <strong>Festival</strong> and at HIFA. This show is<br />

an upbeat exploration <strong>of</strong> modern Zimbabwean music, featuring<br />

high energy dancing and catchy, Zimbabwean melodies in an<br />

exciting celebration <strong>of</strong> local culture, spirit and dance.<br />

Gwarimba<br />

Gwarimba, meaning ‘a bowl full <strong>of</strong> treasures’, is Mufakose’s<br />

finest afro-fusion band. The Crossroads winners have a<br />

stomping sound and highly entertaining lead singer. Since<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir original success, <strong>the</strong> band has grown and <strong>the</strong>ir sound has<br />

refined and gained an international audience after successful<br />

tours <strong>of</strong> Sweden, Austria and Malawi.<br />

destiny presents a performance <strong>of</strong> original, electrifying and<br />

afro-centric music. Their performance presents an intimate show that<br />

will get <strong>the</strong> audience to experience Zimbabwe through music. African<br />

Destiny won <strong>the</strong> Inter-Regional Music Crossroads competition and this<br />

7-piece band has toured Europe to rave reviews.<br />

& INSTITUTO CAMÕES<br />

Anaquim have emerged as one <strong>of</strong> Portugal’s most<br />

popular bands in recent years. Their first album,<br />

Desnecessariamente Complicado (Unnecessarily<br />

Complicated) performed extremely well and led to <strong>the</strong><br />

band establishing <strong>the</strong>ir mark in <strong>the</strong> Lusophone world <strong>of</strong><br />

music. As Vidas dos Outros, <strong>the</strong> band’s second album is<br />

a worthy successor and has launched <strong>the</strong> band onto <strong>the</strong><br />

international market.<br />

Anaquim will delight audiences with <strong>the</strong>ir charm and<br />

digital, mbira, rock and hip-hop, this unusual mix<br />

is an adventure into unknown territory. The homegrown<br />

collective combine art and <strong>the</strong> science <strong>of</strong><br />

vocal and instrumental sounds to paint a vivid and<br />

dynamic soundscape. Featuring a new generation<br />

<strong>of</strong> Zimbabwean artists backed by one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best<br />

international dj’s, DJ Oil (France), this collaboration<br />
