3.1 Governing Board members<br />
The Governing Board met six times in <strong>2006</strong>–<strong>07</strong> – twice in Sydney,<br />
twice in Brisbane, and once each in Melbourne and Canberra. The<br />
Board retains responsibility for strategic and policy matters relating<br />
to the activities of the Centre and ensures these are carried out in<br />
accordance with the provisions of the Commonwealth and Centre<br />
Agreements. John McCarthy continues to chair the Board.<br />
the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) and the Academy of<br />
Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), Neil has been an<br />
active contributor to the development of the chemistry profession<br />
in Australia.<br />
David Golightly<br />
John McCarthy, Chair<br />
John McCarthy is an internationally<br />
recognised industry leader. He is<br />
a Board member of the CIB – the<br />
International Council for Research and<br />
<strong>Innovation</strong> in Building and <strong>Construction</strong><br />
– and Chair of CIB’s Marketing and<br />
Communication Committee, Chairman<br />
of the Facilities Management Action<br />
Agenda Implementation Board and Chair of the International<br />
Organising Committee of SBO8 – the world sustainable buildings<br />
conference scheduled for Melbourne in September 2008. His other<br />
current appointments include Chairman of AEH Property Pty Ltd;<br />
Chairman of CentreCare (NSW) Property Committee; and Director of<br />
Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB). His previous professional<br />
roles have included Chief Executive of ANZ Property Investment and<br />
Advisory Services and Chief Executive of Colonial Mutual Properties.<br />
Noel Faulkner<br />
Noel Faulkner has spent 25 years<br />
in management and has extensive<br />
experience in change management and<br />
organisational restructuring. He has held<br />
the position of Chief Executive Officer<br />
for many large public and private utilities<br />
and is currently the Divisional Manager<br />
of the City Business Unit, Brisbane City<br />
Council. Noel’s division provides architectural, engineering, urban<br />
design, traffic and transport engineering as well as environmental<br />
and water management services to Council.<br />
Neil Furlong<br />
Neil Furlong is the Pro Vice-Chancellor<br />
(Research and <strong>Innovation</strong>) at RMIT<br />
University (RMIT). Neil has been an<br />
active researcher in surface/surfactant<br />
chemistry, environmental technologies<br />
for the past 28 years in industry,<br />
universities and CSIRO in Australia<br />
and Europe. Through lead roles in<br />
David Golightly is one of the John<br />
Holland Group’s most experienced<br />
directors. He joined John Holland Group<br />
in 1979 and has held various positions<br />
in the specialist pre-contracts and<br />
risk management functions, including<br />
<strong>Construction</strong> Estimator, National<br />
Estimating Manager and General<br />
Manager, Technical Services. David’s current position is General<br />
Manager, Engineering and Estimating.<br />
Andrew Johnson<br />
Andrew Johnson is the Associate<br />
Director, Research Division (Business<br />
Development) at the University of<br />
Newcastle. Andrew has worked at<br />
a number of universities including<br />
Newcastle, the University of New<br />
England and the University of Western<br />
Sydney. Following an academic career<br />
in Criminology, Andrew joined the University of Newcastle in a<br />
research development capacity. He is also on the board of NUsport,<br />
and the Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment.<br />
Allen Kearns<br />
Allen Kearns is an environmental<br />
scientist with research interests in the<br />
ecological consequences of urban<br />
and industrial development. He is<br />
Deputy Chief of CSIRO Sustainable<br />
Ecosystems, based in Canberra,<br />
and the Research Leader of CSIRO’s<br />
Sustainable Cities theme. Prior to joining<br />
CSIRO, Allen worked for 13 years in environmental chemistry and<br />
applied ecology with the international consulting company, Dames<br />
& Moore. He ran consulting practices for the company in Australia,<br />
California and France working on a wide range of natural resource<br />
management and infrastructure development projects for the mining,<br />
energy, chemical, manufacturing and urban sectors.<br />
