TEEN SPECIAL NEEDS CLASS
9.15 CREATIVE EXPRESSION
FOR TEENS WITH MILD TO
MODERATE AUTISM
Jane Mcintyre
A new arts program, developed in
collaboration with FAU Center for
Autism and Related Disabilities.
Specifically designed for teens
between the ages of 14 and 17
with mild to moderate autism.
A variety of mediums such as
drawing, painting, mixed media
and sculpture will be used to
enhance the creative process of
each student.
This class is a unique opportunity
for individuals with autism
interested in the Visual Arts
to learn and experiment with
various media in a relaxed
environment.
The classes are designed to:
• Engage the visual, perceptive
areas of the brain.
• Increase student’s creative
expression and self-expression.
• Provide an opportunity to
develop relationships between
the students and each other, as
well as the instructor.

Term A: 5 wks/$170
Term B: 4 wks/$140
• Please submit the Special Student
Application along with class registration
in order to identify accommodations
needed for your child.
• A personal meeting will take place
with all special needs students (and
their parents or guardians) to review
the necessary accomodations and
determine the support required.
• Students registering for special needs
classes are required to register two
weeks prior to class start date.

BEGINNING–INTERMEDIATE

This class explores basic concepts
and applications of the drawing
process enabling an artist to
develop the skills necessary for
advanced drawing, painting, and
sculpting through realism or
abstract expressions. Traditional
materials and applications are
used but the emphasis remains
on composition and design.

A STUDY IN COMPOSITION
INTERMEDIATE–ADVANCED

Focus on designing a composition
beyond drawing what you see in
order to build forms, line and value
into an interesting and stimulating
drawing.

9.22 ALL MEDIA PAINTING: AN
EXPLORATION IN COLOR
BEGINNING–INTERMEDIATE

Beginning with a still life, explore
composition, color theory and
color values. Discussions and
critiques led by the instructor
enhance personal artistic growth.
