TEEN SPECIAL NEEDS CLASS<br />
9.15 CREATIVE EXPRESSION<br />
FOR TEENS WITH MILD TO<br />
MODERATE AUTISM<br />
Jane Mcintyre<br />
A new arts program, developed in<br />
collaboration with FAU Center for<br />
Autism and Related Disabilities.<br />
Specifically designed for teens<br />
between the ages <strong>of</strong> 14 and 17<br />
with mild to moderate autism.<br />
A variety <strong>of</strong> mediums such as<br />
drawing, painting, mixed media<br />
and sculpture will be used to<br />
enhance the creative process <strong>of</strong><br />
each student.<br />
This class is a unique opportunity<br />
for individuals with autism<br />
interested in the Visual <strong>Art</strong>s<br />
to learn and experiment with<br />
various media in a relaxed<br />
environment.<br />
The classes are designed to:<br />
• Engage the visual, perceptive<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> the brain.<br />
• Increase student’s creative<br />
expression and self-expression.<br />
• Provide an opportunity to<br />
develop relationships between<br />
the students and each other, as<br />
well as the instructor.<br />

• Please submit the Special Student<br />
Application along with class registration<br />
in order to identify accommodations<br />
needed for your child.<br />
• A personal meeting will take place<br />
with all special needs students (and<br />
their parents or guardians) to review<br />
the necessary accomodations and<br />
determine the support required.<br />
• Students registering for special needs<br />
classes are required to register two<br />
weeks prior to class start date.<br />

BEGINNING–INTERMEDIATE<br />

This class explores basic concepts<br />
and applications <strong>of</strong> the drawing<br />
process enabling an artist to<br />
develop the skills necessary for<br />
advanced drawing, painting, and<br />
sculpting through realism or<br />
abstract expressions. Traditional<br />
materials and applications are<br />
used but the emphasis remains<br />
on composition and design.<br />

into an interesting and stimulating<br />

EXPLORATION IN COLOR<br />
BEGINNING–INTERMEDIATE<br />

Beginning with a still life, explore<br />
composition, color theory and<br />
color values. Discussions and<br />
critiques led by the instructor<br />
enhance personal artistic growth.<br />
