This course covers all aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

the medium, from the preparation<br />

<strong>of</strong> genuine gesso wood panels to<br />

the mixing <strong>of</strong> paints from dry<br />

pigments and egg yolk, under<br />

paintings, glazing, gilding and oil<br />

glazes. Combining both eastern<br />

and western panel painting<br />

traditions, the class provides<br />

ongoing discussions, critiques<br />

and demonstrations.<br />

casein, pastel, metal leaf, and<br />

mixed media. Understand diverse<br />

painting approaches — grisaille,<br />

underpainting (imprimatura), direct<br />

painting (alla prima), glazing, and<br />

impasto. Design principles and<br />

color theory are also emphasized.<br />

commissions, participating in major<br />

competitions and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

representation. The spacious studio<br />

accommodations and limited<br />

enrollment make this an ideal<br />

environment for inspired artwork<br />
