H. HOST FAMILIES:<br />

1. Will provide bed and breakfast, and transportation to and from rehearsals<br />

and performances for students in <strong>the</strong>ir care.<br />

2. Will contact <strong>the</strong> Festival Director or <strong>the</strong> Rotary housing liason with<br />

any concerns about student behavior.<br />

3. Will be aware of <strong>the</strong> Festival rules and curfews.<br />

ADJUDICATOR GUIDELINES:<br />

All adjudicators PLEASE stay at auditions until all scores are verified.<br />

INSTRUMENTAL ADJUDICATOR GUIDELINES:<br />

1. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to first scheduled audition.<br />

2. Bring to <strong>the</strong> audition: <strong>the</strong> handbook listing of requirements for scales, <strong>the</strong><br />

original audition piece for you to follow along with, pen or pencils, calculator,<br />

scrap paper, and two sets of identical sight reading material (one for you and<br />

one for <strong>the</strong> student).<br />

3. Check in with one of <strong>the</strong> Festival Directors and get cancelation notices.<br />

4. Be familiar with audition piece, scale requirements, required instrument<br />

range and adjudication rubric forms.<br />

5. Any duplicate instrumental judges will do a 3-5 auditions toge<strong>the</strong>r and gain<br />

consensus for scoring.<br />

6. Each adjudicator will ask <strong>the</strong> student to pronounce his/her name to be sure<br />

<strong>the</strong> name is legible on <strong>the</strong> adjudication form.<br />

7. Each adjudicator will choose 2 scales (from <strong>the</strong> 9 prepared, required scales)<br />

for each student. One scale should be easy, <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r difficult. Scale<br />

requests should be balanced and random/alternate from student to student.<br />

Students should not choose a scale to play.<br />

8. Listen and assess <strong>the</strong> same portion of <strong>the</strong> required piece to all students for<br />

direct comparison. Original music must be used. If a copy is brought into<br />
