Parish Library hours: Sunday, 10:00 am to 10:45 am.
Ministree is a partnership between Parishioners
and Catholic United Financial. Working together,
volunteer service needs within the parish, school
and surrounding community are identified. These
service opportunities are then recorded on ‗leaves‘.
Parishioners and school families are then encouraged
to stop by the ―Ministree‖ located in the Welcoming
Center and select a volunteer leaf. When the
service opportunity has been completed, the leaves
are returned to Parish Office. Catholic United Financial
in returns makes a financial contribution to Holy
Rosary Catholic School. Everyone is encouraged to
participate in this great fundraiser for the school.
Every Tuesday ~ Lot’s of Fun! The members of the Holy
Rosary‘s Coffee Club do more than have coffee and eat
dessert! In fact, the reason most of them come so regular are
for the socialization and the ability to play their favorite card
or RummiCub game. We have whist, bridge, pinochle, Phase
10 and RummiCub players who are always looking for new
individuals to join us. We meet every Tuesday at 2 pm in the
Parish Living Room.
Singer, composer, musician and author David Hass will
present a Concert at Blessed Sacrament Church in West
Fargo on Friday, January 11, 7:30 pm. Tickets at available at
the door for $20 or advance tickets may be purchased for
$15 by contacting them at BlessedSacrament@fargodiocese.org

NOTES TO NOTE:
A NOTE ABOUT ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT ON WEDNESDAYS:
We all know how unfortunate the senseless school shootings all around our country
are. We here at Holy Rosary always need to be concerned with the safety of our
students during the school day. In light of all that has happened, most particularly
the events on Newtown, Connecticut, we need to make a few changes in regard to
our people coming and going from the Adoration Chapel on Wednesdays. We ask
that the sign in be done at the school office window. The school staff will then open
the doors for those attending adoration. We are sorry for any inconvenience that it might cause
but in the interest of safety we need to be vigilant. Thanks so much for your cooperation.
SOME CHANGES FOR THIS WEEK ONLY:
The Parish Offices close on Monday at noon and reopen on Thursday at 8:00 A.M.
There will not be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday this week.
There will be Communion Services on Wednesday (9:00 A.M.) and Thursday (7:00 P.M.).

husband, THOMAS TORGERSON, whose funeral was on Friday here at Holy Rosary and to Ray

MINISTERS FOR THE MASSES AT CHRISTMAS: As
Christmas draws near we need to schedule ministers for the
various Christmas Liturgies. We have sign-up sheets at the
Lake Avenue entrance of the Church. Please consider helping
with those ministries by signing up.
Lectors… Please pick up your Year C Workbook for
Lectors located on the counter in the sacristy. Your will need
this resource when preparing for your weekend readings.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) ...RCIA sessions
are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 –8:15 p.m. in
the Fireplace Room. Note: NO RCIA on December 25 and
January 1. For further information, contact the Parish Office
at 847-1393 or Carol Foltz at 847-6705(H).
Infant Baptism Preparation… Next session is scheduled for
Thursday, January 17 from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. in the Holy Family
Room. If you are planning to present your child for Baptism,
please contact the Parish Office (847-1393) before
January 15. Whenever possible, try to have both parents attend
the preparation session.
Youth Ministry News
Ever since I have left the academic world, I find myself
daydreaming about those days. There are, on special
occasions, opportunities where I will be able to share these
thoughts with those that helped me make them…my classmates.
I love being able to gather with them and reminisce
about the glorious times we had together. If you can imagine
a bunch of guys congregating around a table to discuss
the most embarrassing sports moments, the glory stories,
and the moments of failure…that was us. To this day, we
still critique each other on how we were back then; we
even bring up specific moments we would change (maybe,
just maybe, we would have gotten a different result).
When I think about all those memories that I was able
to form with my friends I tend to forget about some of the
harder ones until sometime reminds me of them. During
my senior year, our basketball team went to Red Lake (mid
January – mid February) to play. We were given specific
instructions on how to behave and what to expect there.
When we arrived, a man named Derrick greeted us; he was
the school police officer and was very courteous to us visitors.
While the other squads were preparing to play, I sat
and talked with him for some time. He was a joyful man
and loved what he did; I even joked around with him,
which was fun. After the game I said goodbye, got on the
bus, and we drove away.
On March 21, 2005 I heard about a school shooting in
Red Lake. My coach called me into his office and told me
about it, and later on I heard that Derrick was one of the
people who fell slain to the killer’s bullets; that was tough
for me to comprehend. What senseless killing and what
evil just occurred. Many questions circulated throughout
my head and they still remain unanswered today…God
where were you?

at the 9:00 am Mass next Sunday, December 30
due to the Christmas holiday. Thanks for your

On December 14, 2012 another of many school shooting
took place. Innocent lives were taken and people are
left trying to make sense of it all. Just like everyone else,
my heart broke when I heart about this. Flashbacks to my
time in high school arose, and I couldn’t believe that this
happened again…God where were you? Why are these
evil things happening?
If you recall the readings from the weekend (on
Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday), the people were asking John
what must they do. I think those same questions are arising
in us today, especially now in the face of such evil.
My brothers and sisters, this evil has been around for
some time and it has taken many forms and it will continue
to be present with us. What we have to do is fight back
against it. We need to become a people of prayer; we
know the story and we know the outcome. The light has
defeated the darkness and darkness shall NEVER reign.
I want to leave you with a quote from Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Please continue to pray for all those who lost their
lives in Newtown and also for Adam Lanza. +JMJ+
“We’ve escorted Him(God) out of our culture
And we have marched Him off the public square.
As soon as the tragedy unfolded though, I think
God showed up. He showed up in the lives of the
teachers who put themselves in front of a gunman
to protect their kids, in policemen who entered
the school unknown to if they would be met with a
barrage of bullets, He showed up in the form of
tears and hugs from friends and family members,
He showed up in the overflowed churches, and He
even showed up at the White House where the
President invoked His name by quoting from
His book.”

Year End Gift Opportunities
This is the time of year when many people consider offering charitable contributions
to their favorite charities. We hope that you consider Holy Rosary Catholic Community

Christmas Envelopes
There is a Christmas envelope in your December packet. We hope that you will
maintain your regular weekly support along with offering a special Christmas
contribution. Please give generously. Our annual operating budget is based on
using both envelopes.
Electronic Funds Transfer
Please consider using our automatic giving process through our EFT program.
Automatic deductions will be taken from your checking, savings or credit union
account on the 1 st and the 15 th of each month. You don’t have to worry about
writing a check – it’s all done electronically! Forms are available in the parish
office.
Stock Contributions
Appreciated stock is a great way to make a contribution AND perhaps maximize
your tax benefit. You may eliminate substantial taxes on capital gains realized
between the date you purchased the stock and the date of the contribution.
Employer Matching Funds
You may wish to consult with your employer to determine how a matching gift
can double the value of your contribution to our parish or one of our specific
ministries.
“Moving Forward In Faith” Capital Campaign
We have created a special capital campaign account separate from our regular
operating fund. If you would like to offer an initial contribution to the campaign
to help jumpstart our efforts we welcome your support.
