Inpatient Flow<br />
• Medic<strong>in</strong>e and Surgery Wards:<br />
– Reduction <strong>in</strong> both operative and non-operative LOS OMELOS<br />
– Sav<strong>in</strong>gs of 143,100 Bed Days of Care on 530,000 admissions, which equates to a sav<strong>in</strong>gs of<br />
$98,000,000 ($684.75/day X 143,100 days).<br />
– Direct sav<strong>in</strong>gs from the bottom l<strong>in</strong>e – for example patients who are able to be transferred to<br />
VA from the community, sav<strong>in</strong>g fee basis outlays. Some of this is sav<strong>in</strong>gs of direct cost<br />
(supplies and personnel). Some of this is mission expansion (ability to accept more patients<br />
for VA <strong>care</strong> who otherwise would go elsewhere).
