Inpatient Flow
• Medicine and Surgery Wards:
– Reduction in both operative and non-operative LOS OMELOS
– Savings of 143,100 Bed Days of Care on 530,000 admissions, which equates to a savings of
$98,000,000 ($684.75/day X 143,100 days).
– Direct savings from the bottom line – for example patients who are able to be transferred to
VA from the community, saving fee basis outlays. Some of this is savings of direct cost
(supplies and personnel). Some of this is mission expansion (ability to accept more patients
for VA care who otherwise would go elsewhere).
