NAPA VALLEY | WINE COUNTRY THIS WEEK Cade Winery in Napa Valley Launches Unique Tasting Programs Unique Cave and Terrace Offer an Intimate Napa Valley Experience John Conover, partner, co-owner and general manager of Cade Winery, is pleased to announce two new tasting programs launching imminently at the winery. Cade, which opened in April 2009, is California’s first winery estate to achieve Gold LEED certification for the entire property – including the hospitality building, caves and production facility. The first program, beginning the last week of June, is a wine and cheese pairing in the winery’s famous cave – 14,500 square feet built into the hillside – inspired by the inverted version of the PlumpJack logo. Six local cheeses have been selected by Winemaker, Tony Biagi, and Napa Chef Roger Babel, to complement Cade’s award-winning wines. This is the only way that guests will be able to sample the 2008 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Cheese pairing in the caves will be available Friday – Sunday at a cost of $50 per person. Also beginning in late June, private parties of four to eight people will have the opportunity to book tastings on the terrace of Cade Winery, outside the Gold LEED certified production facility, located on a dramatic hillside of manzanita trees high on Napa Valley’s Howell Mountain. This tasting program allows small groups to have a more intimate experience with a host from Cade, and the chance to taste the Cade Estate Sauvignon Blanc. The Private Winery Terrace Tastings are also available Friday – Sunday at a cost of $30. The name Cade is derived from a Shakespearean-era term for an oak cask or barrel. The Cade Winery estate comprises more than 60 acres, 20 of which were planted as vineyards in 2003. Of the remaining land, approximately 28 acres will be protected to ensure that they will always remain open space. Cade Winery (www.cadewinery.com) is located at 360 Howell Mountain Road, Angwin and is open daily for tastings by appointment only seven days a week – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cade can be reached by calling (707) 965-2746. These special events are in addition to its schedule of behind-the-scenes tours and tastings held daily at 11am and 2pm (reservations required) plus other library tastings and food and wine pairings that are by appointment only. • August 27th & 28th – Grgich Hills Cheese Festival Meet artisan cheese mongers, local honey producers and chefs who specialize in cooking with and pairing cheese, plus enjoy sampling Grgich Hills wines; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Cost is $25 per person plus $5 per pairing seminar. • September 10 – Grgich Hill Fumé Blanc Preview and Oysters Join Grgich Hills as we toast the beginning of harvest with a glass of their 2010 Fumé Blanc and Hog Island Oysters – from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. Price per person starts at $12. • October 1 – Grgich Hills Estate Stomp Party Join Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Mike Grgich as they celebrate the start of their 35th harvest by stomping grapes, followed by a buffet dinner. Dress is casual; just come ready to crush some grapes with your feet! Starts at 6 p.m.; $75 Grgich Hills club members, $90 nonmembers guests. $500 for a table of eight.
