THE NEXT
STEPS
During the Roundtable itself, and in the
evaluation survey that people filled in at the end
of the conference, people said that there are too
many meetings with lots of talking, but that is
usually the end of it. People wanted to see some
results coming from this Roundtable, in two
main areas:
• Clear reports and information made available
to the people who were at the Roundtable,
and to other interested people.
• Steps taken to begin turning all the talk into
real actions.
The information from the Roundtable should
be made available so that people can use it to
start working on the actions. It was agreed that
the Roundtable organizers would put out the
following information and documents:
• A ‘Statement of Principles’ developed from
the workshops and the main sessions.
• A ‘List of Actions’ developed from the
workshops and the main sessions.
• A short report on what happened at the
Roundtable, and how the Principles and
Actions were worked out. This was to be
produced as quickly as possible.
• A long report containing everything that
happened at the Roundtable, including all
the presentations and papers, to be produced
within six months.
• All the presentations and papers to be made
be available on the internet at http://www.
klc.org.au/rndtable_docs.html
It was agreed that information and ideas from
the Roundtable should be taken back to the
community through visits and information
sessions, and that a short DVD of the Roundtable
would be made for community people. The
organisers of the Roundtable agreed to look for
funding to do these two tasks.
People at the Roundtable also agreed that anyone
could start moving forward with the ideas and
actions developed at the Roundtable. It was
decided that the organising partners could start
moving forward with the priority actions, and
that people themselves would decide what steps
were appropriate to keep the initiative going.
