The Learning Innovation (LI)<br />

Division, HEC has launched the<br />

14 batch of Master Trainers<br />

F a c u l t y P r o f e s s i o n a l<br />

Development Programme<br />

(FPDP). The Programme, which<br />

will continue until November 13,<br />

<strong>2010</strong>, is being attended by 30<br />

faculty members from 25 public<br />

and HEC funded private sector<br />

universities across Pakistan.<br />

14 Master Trainers FPDP Begins<br />

This programme is designed<br />

specifically for freshly inducted<br />

in-service teachers who learn<br />

the principles of learning<br />

techniques through rigorous<br />

training. It aims to enable<br />

University teachers to use<br />

innovative teaching strategies<br />

and communication skills that<br />

blend academic concepts with<br />

workplace applications.<br />

In this regard, 11 exclusive<br />

modules will be covered by<br />

eminent resource persons. Dr.<br />

Mr. Chohan presented the major<br />

programme and activities of the<br />

Division. Ms. Malik introduced<br />

the participants with the major<br />

aims of the Learning Innovation<br />

Division, which is a hub for<br />

empowering academic and<br />

administrative leaders of the<br />

universities towards sustained<br />

quality education.<br />

To enrich the learning process,<br />

LI Division engages experts of<br />

multi-disciplinary fields as<br />

resource persons, who share<br />

t h e i r e x p e r i e n c e s a n d<br />

knowledge gathered from latest<br />

academic content and research<br />

on “Teaching as a Profession”,<br />

“ C o m m u n i c a t i o n S k i l l s ”,<br />

“Assessment and Evaluation”<br />

and other modules. This<br />

programme also provides an<br />

e x c e l l e n t n e t w o r k i n g<br />

opportunity with faculty<br />

members from all over the<br />

country.<br />

Scholar Wins Award at Eurasia Conference<br />

Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahmood Khan,<br />

Director, National Centre of<br />

Excellence (NCE) in Physical<br />

Chemistry, University of<br />

Peshawar has been awarded the<br />

Best Oral Presentation Prize and<br />

a shield at the 11 Eurasia<br />

Conference on Chemical<br />

Sciences recently held in Jordon.<br />

Another scientist from HEJ<br />

Institute Karachi was also<br />

awarded a prize on oral<br />

presentation.<br />

Dr. Khan along with Dr. Jan Nisar,<br />

another faculty member of NCE,<br />

presented their research work at<br />

the Conference, which was<br />

attended by senior professors<br />

and scientists of 61 countries<br />

from Europe, Asia and USA<br />

including several nobel prize<br />

winners in Chemistry who also<br />

presented their work.<br />

His research presentation<br />

entitled "Radiation induced<br />

degradation of lindane in water"<br />

was based on the removal of<br />

commonly used pesticide and<br />

persistent organic pollutant<br />

(POPs) lindane (hexachloro<br />

cyclohexane) in water using<br />

a d v a n c e d o x i d a t i o n<br />

technologies. This research has<br />

been done as a part of HEC<br />

funded research project. Earlier,<br />

the Centre was placed at the top<br />

position amongst the 24 Centres<br />

in the country by HEC and the<br />

Ministry of <strong>Education</strong> on<br />

excellent research and academic<br />

performance.<br />

7 SMC Meeting under JNBS<br />

Scholarships Awarded<br />

The 7 SMC meeting of the Japanese Needs Based<br />

Merit Scholarship Programme was recently held at HEC<br />

Secretariat, wherein remaining 156 scholarships were<br />

awarded.<br />

The scope of the Programme was to award 1500<br />

scholarships to students of 50 participating<br />

institutions/universities in six disciplines. Out of these,<br />

1344 slots have already been awarded.<br />

Training for PERN2<br />

and Universities Team<br />

The Information Technology Division, HEC organized a<br />

14-day “Huawei NE Series High End Router Training” at<br />

Shenzhen City, China for a team of participants from<br />

HEC’s PERN2 and universities, who cover network<br />

operations and maintenance as well as network<br />

planning and management.<br />

The training was entirely focused to develop<br />

professional skills and to handle high end Huawei<br />

Routers. Training methods included classroom lectures,<br />

multimedia training, computer-based training, hands-<br />

Japanese High <strong>Commission</strong>, was the guest of<br />

honour. Representatives of five participating<br />

universities were present whereas 15<br />

universities participated through video<br />

conferencing.<br />

These 156 slots have been distributed to the<br />

unprivileged needy scholars of the participating<br />

universities which are offering social and<br />

basic/natural sciences disciplines. Such<br />

universities were divided into three categories.<br />

Category-A includes universities of far-flung<br />

areas, Category-B comprises universities of<br />

comparatively bigger cities while Category-C<br />

consists of universities of main cities. A ratio of<br />

3:2:1 was decided among the categories A, B<br />

and C, respectively.<br />

The award of scholarships is purely on needsbased<br />

criteria. The awardees are merit scholars<br />

and belong to low income group lacking finances<br />

to meet the cost of higher education.<br />

While participants from universities were Dr.<br />

Khalil Khoumbati, University of Sindh, Jamshoro,<br />

Mr. Ahsen, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad,<br />

Mr. Shahzad Abid, College of Physicians and<br />

Surgeons of Pakistan, Karachi, Mr. Sarfaraz<br />

Ahmed, Balochistan University of Information<br />

Technology, Engineering and Management<br />

Sciences, Quetta, Mr. Nadeem Ahmed, University<br />

of Karachi, and Mr. Mohammad Rashid,<br />

Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.<br />

Upon completion of training, the participants<br />

appreciated the Resource Department as well as<br />

the Management Committee for organizing a<br />

successful training. They emphasized that such<br />

interrelated trainings must be continued in order<br />

to polish professional skills and knowledge.<br />

HEC-Financial Aid Development Programme<br />

Workshops on Branding, Product Development and<br />

Project Management<br />

The USAID funded <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>-<br />

Financial Aid Development (HEC-FAD) Programme<br />

organized a three-day interactive training workshop<br />

on “Communication, Branding and Product<br />

Development” and another two-day workshop on<br />

“Project Management” for student financial aid and<br />

university advancement/development staff, as part<br />

of its ongoing technical assistance to the higher<br />

education sector.<br />

The workshops, held at HEC Secretariat, were<br />

attended by the university advancement and<br />

financial aid staff of Programme's 12 partners,<br />

including HEC and 11 partner universities.<br />

The core objective of the first workshop was to<br />

enable the participants to better understand<br />

communications product design and develop the<br />

right products for marketing the HEC and partner<br />

universities to potential donors, establish public<br />

private partnerships and international linkages. By<br />

the end of the workshop, each partner had built and<br />

p a c k a g e d a c o m m u n i c a t i o n s s t ra t e g y,<br />

implementation plan, awareness of financial aid<br />

programmes to remote and needy areas of Pakistan,<br />

which was specific to their institutions and would<br />

prove constructive in resource mobilization efforts<br />

and timely awareness of scholarships opportunities<br />

to the financial needy students.<br />

“This workshop has made me appreciate and realize<br />

the importance of developing a comprehensive<br />

branding strategy for my university, particularly the<br />

office of student financial aid and university<br />

advancement. After three days of extensive training,<br />

I am taking back with me concrete ideas for specific<br />

products that I will be developing with my team to<br />

promote and market my university. Developing a<br />

marketing tool kit for each individual university<br />

during the workshop was one of the most helpful<br />

activities. HEC-FAD should hold more of such<br />

trainings,” said a participant.<br />

The second workshop was aimed at enhancing the<br />

capacity of its participants in understanding the<br />

basic concepts and elements of project<br />

management, specifically in the public sector in<br />

order to effectively initiate, plan, control, and report<br />

projects to generate funds for financial aid and<br />

advancement/development offices. Another major<br />

focus of the workshop was to enhance the capacity<br />

of participants to develop projects that establish and<br />

strengthen public private partnerships and<br />

international linkages.<br />

“Project Management workshop has given me<br />

conceptual clarity on how a project should be<br />

conceptualized, implemented and monitored. I am<br />

now familiar with not only the techniques of<br />

managing government funded projects but also<br />

have a good grasp of donor funded projects. Case<br />

studies from our own universities have helped me in<br />

understanding the existing gaps in my knowledge<br />

and will enable me in future to develop better<br />

projects and mange them more efficiently. I would<br />

like to thank USAID and HEC-FAD programme for<br />

organizing this training,” commented a participant.<br />

In addition to HEC, 11 universities that participated<br />

included Agricultural University, Peshawar, Institute<br />

of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Quaid-i-Azam<br />

University, Islamabad, Arid Agriculture University,<br />

Rawalpindi, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad,<br />

Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore,<br />

Balochistan University of Information Technology,<br />

Engineering and Management Sciences, Quetta,<br />

Sindh Agricultural University, Tandojam, Institute of<br />

Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, Shaheed<br />

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and<br />

Technology, Karachi and Sukkur IBA, Sukkur.<br />

Chairperson HEC Visits AIT Thailand<br />

Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, Chairperson, <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong><br />

<strong>Commission</strong> (HEC) visited the Asian Institute of<br />

Technology (AIT), Thailand recently, where he had a<br />

broad range of interaction with academics and<br />

officials at the Institute.<br />

In his meeting with Dr. Said Irandoust, President<br />

AIT, Dr. Laghari had a detailed exchange of views on<br />

further strengthening of Pakistan-AIT relationship.<br />

Matters relating to the proposed establishment of an<br />

AIT Centre in Pakistan were also discussed. Dr.<br />

Naveed Anwar, Head of the AIT Pakistan Task Force<br />

and AIT Consulting, was also present during these<br />

discussions.<br />

The Chairperson also participated in celebrations of<br />

st<br />

“AIT Day <strong>2010</strong>”, marking the 51 anniversary of the<br />

Institute's establishment. The same day, he also<br />

attended a special ceremony, presided over by Her<br />

Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn,<br />

wherein Dr. Shamsudin M. Qureshi from Pakistan<br />

was inducted into the AIT inaugural Hall of Fame<br />

<strong>2010</strong>. Mr. Sohail Mahmood, Pakistan's Ambassador<br />

to Thailand, was also present on the occasion. Dr.<br />

Qureshi is an eminent educationist from Pakistan,<br />

who did his Masters from AIT in 1965 and<br />

subsequently had a distinguished career in public<br />

service in the realms of education, and science and<br />

technology.<br />

Dr. Laghari also met the members of the Pakistan<br />

Students Association (PSA) at AIT. He was briefed by<br />

the students on their academic achievements as<br />

well as participation in extra-curricular activities.<br />

The Chairperson appreciated the efforts of the best<br />

performers among the students.<br />

The number of Pakistani students at AIT is over 100<br />

and most of them are HEC scholars, who are<br />

pursuing Masters and PhD degree programmes.<br />

HEC Recognizes R&D Organizations in Social Sciences<br />

HEC has recognized R&D organizations in Social<br />

Sciences as part of its initiatives for promotion of<br />

research and development culture in the country. On<br />

the recommendation of the Committee on<br />

Development of Social Sciences, Arts and<br />

Humanities, HEC invited applications for recognition<br />

from R&D organizations/professional associations<br />

and think tanks engaged in Social Sciences,<br />

Business <strong>Education</strong>, Arts and Humanities.<br />

After reviewing received applications, four<br />

organizations have been recognized as R&D<br />

organizations in the fields of Social Sciences. These<br />

include Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad<br />

Policy Research Institute, Institute of Strategic<br />

Studies and the Centre for Civic <strong>Education</strong>. After<br />

recognition, these organizations and their<br />

employees are eligible to apply for various HEC<br />

programmes.<br />

A few R&D organizations in the fields of Sciences<br />

and Technology are availing various HEC initiatives,<br />

including competitive grants, scholarships, postdoctoral<br />

fellowships, etc.<br />

International University Council Established<br />

The Government of Turkey has approved the setting<br />

up of an International University Council, with its<br />

principal seat at Ankara, to promote higher<br />

education in Asia, Africa and Balkan States,<br />

particularly among the Muslim countries.<br />

Mr. Orhan Hikmet Azizoglu, Head of most prominent<br />

universities of Istanbul, and Mr. M. A. Raoof,<br />

Chairman, Board of Governors, University of Lahore,<br />

have been selected as President and General<br />

Secretary of the Council, respectively. The first-ever<br />

conference of the International University Council<br />

will be held in Ankara from December 17-20, <strong>2010</strong><br />

and will be inaugurated by the President of Turkey.<br />

The Prime Minister of Turkey will also preside over<br />

one of its sessions.<br />

All the public and private sector universities in<br />

Pakistan have been invited to become members of<br />

the Council and also participate in the conference.<br />

47 HEC Scholars Complete PhD from China<br />

Forty-seven PhD scholars of the <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong><br />

<strong>Commission</strong> have completed their doctoral studies<br />

from leading Chinese universities under HEC's<br />

scheme “PhD Scholarships for Basic Sciences,<br />

China”, which was launched in August 2003. Against<br />

the 50 available scholarships, 48 outstanding<br />

teachers and researchers of public sector<br />

universities belonging to Advanced Basic Sciences<br />

proceeded to China. Thirty-five candidates were<br />

selected in 2004, five in 2005, while eight candidates<br />

were selected in 2006.<br />

Out of these, 47 scholars have graduated and have<br />

rejoined their parent organizations. Only one<br />

scholar could not complete his PhD because of<br />

medical reasons. These scholars have made<br />

excellent contributions in their respective disciplines<br />

and produced a substantial number of local<br />

publications. They have also published 94 papers in<br />

international journals of repute during their stay in<br />

China. The scheme has achieved its major<br />

objectives, which included providing opportunities<br />

to teachers and researchers for higher training<br />

abroad, facilitating assimilation and transfer of<br />

promising scientific knowledge and information to<br />

achieve rapid economic growth.<br />

These scholars were placed at the best Chinese<br />

universities, including Tsinghua University, Jilin<br />

University, China Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang<br />

University, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT),<br />

Shanghai University, Harbin Institute of Technology,<br />

Beijing University, and Beijing University of Science<br />

and Technology (BUST) through the China<br />

Scholarship Council (CSC).<br />

The beneficiaries of this prestigious programme<br />

include University of Malakand, Chakdara,<br />

University of AJK, Muzaffarabad, Hazara University,<br />

Mansehra, Mehran University of Engineering and<br />

Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan Council of Scientific<br />

and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan Atomic<br />

Energy <strong>Commission</strong> (PAEC) and a number of<br />

colleges in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.<br />

28 HEC Scholars Return to Pakistan after<br />

Completion of MS Engineering in South Korea<br />

A group of 28 HEC scholars have successfully<br />

completed MS Engineering studies in top ranking<br />

universities of South Korea and returned to Pakistan<br />

in August <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

Under the programme entitled “MS Level Training in<br />

Korean Universities/Industries”, 131 scholars have<br />

already returned to Pakistan.<br />

<strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> has initiated the<br />

biggest programme of scholarships in the history of<br />

Pakistan to give a jump start to the development of<br />

human resources for meeting the requirement of<br />

universities, R&D organizations and industry in the<br />

country.<br />

scholars were sent to South Korea out of which 159<br />

have successfully completed their studies in hi-tech<br />

engineering disciplines. These engineering<br />

graduates were enrolled in Masters in Engineering<br />

programmes of the top ranking universities of South<br />

Korea, many of which are ranked amongst top 100<br />

universities.<br />

This programme has been especially designed for<br />

engineers, which is aimed at preparing high-tech<br />

work force to be deployed in the industrial sector of<br />

Pakistan. Through this programme, HEC scholars<br />

have also availed the opportunity to work on real life<br />

projects being run by leading Korean Industries like<br />

LG, Samsung, KIA, Daewoo, Hyundai, etc.<br />

So far 1044 scholars have returned to Pakistan and<br />

are serving various universities/organizations after<br />

completion of MS/M Phil (184), PhD (500) and Postdoctoral<br />

(360) studies. There is still a huge demand<br />

of highly trained manpower due to rapid expansion<br />

of higher education sector of the country. Under the<br />

abovementioned programme, a total of 200 HEC<br />

These scholars are legally bound to serve in Pakistan<br />

for a minimum period of two years. In this regard, a<br />

well-managed “Placement Cell” has also been<br />

established in HRD Division of HEC for placement of<br />

returned scholars in various public and private<br />

sector universities/R&D organizations of Pakistan.<br />

and facilitation in responding to<br />

global advancements and<br />

T h e h i g h e r e d u c a t i o n<br />

institutions should take<br />

responsibility of developing<br />

effective internal quality<br />

assurance system. Quality<br />

Enhancement Cells, established<br />

by the Quality Assurance<br />

Agency, have played an<br />

important role for sensitizing<br />

academia so as to promote<br />

q u a l i t y c u l t u r e i n t h e<br />

universities.<br />

This was the consensus among<br />

participants of the 17 meeting<br />

of the National Quality<br />

Assurance Committee (NQAC)<br />

held at HEC Regional Centre,<br />

Lahore.<br />

HEC, British Council to Organize<br />

Regional Policy Dialogue<br />

T h e H i g h e r E d u c a t i o n<br />

<strong>Commission</strong>, in collaboration<br />

with the British Council, is<br />

organizing a Regional Policy<br />

Dialogue from November 23-25,<br />

<strong>2010</strong>. Through this policy<br />

dialogue, delegates will work<br />

towards an understanding of<br />

national policies, institutional<br />

approaches and outreach<br />

programmes which enable<br />

knowledge transfer for economic<br />

and social benefit. This major<br />

regional symposium will explore<br />

what education providers,<br />

governments and industry can<br />

do together to encourage<br />

knowledge transfer and to<br />

support its development within<br />

the higher education sector.<br />

It will be a three- day event and<br />

will feature keynote sessions,<br />

roundtable reviews, panel<br />

discussions, parallel sessions<br />

and action planning meetings. It<br />

is expected that this event will<br />

provide a framework for future<br />

collaborative work around this<br />

Knowledge Transfer Initiative.<br />

There will be a modest seed corn<br />

fund available to develop<br />

collaborative work, for example,<br />

to develop case studies. The<br />

details of this fund will be<br />

announced at the event.<br />

The learning from this event and<br />

similar policy dialogues in <strong>2010</strong><br />

will be taken forward to the next<br />

Qualified Faculty Essential to Improve Working<br />

of Pakistan Study Centres: Dr. Naqvi<br />

“The performance of Pakistan<br />

Study Centres (PSC) can never<br />

improve without induction of<br />

highly-qualified faculty. The<br />

Centres are not taking full<br />

advantage of different schemes<br />

of HEC for research and<br />

development activities.”<br />

This was stated by Dr. Sohail<br />

Naqvi, Executive Director,<br />

<strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Commission</strong><br />

while talking to the Directors of<br />

Pakistan Study Centres (PSCs) in<br />

a meeting recently held at HEC<br />

Secretariat.<br />

The meeting, held to evaluate<br />

the performance of Centres as<br />

well as discuss their future<br />

course of action, was also<br />

attended by Dr. Mujahid Kamran,<br />

Vice Chancellor, University of the<br />

Punjab and Dr. Azmat Hayat<br />

Khan, Vice Chancellor, University<br />

of Peshawar and was joined by<br />

Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui,<br />

Pakistan Study Centres were<br />

established to engage in the<br />

study of languages, literature,<br />

social structure, attitudes and<br />

motivation of the people of<br />

various regions of the country.<br />

Their aim was to promote<br />

teaching cooperation in interdisciplinary<br />

relationship with<br />

other teaching and research<br />

establishments.<br />

“It must be clear that unless you<br />

hire qualified PhD faculty, no<br />

research and development<br />

activity is going to succeed. The<br />

whole system of higher<br />

education revolves around<br />

faculty,” said Dr. Naqvi.<br />

While stressing the significance<br />

of these Centres, Dr. Naqvi<br />

urged the Directors to move<br />

forward in collaboration with<br />

each other. He appreciated Dr.<br />

Mujahid Kamran for offering a<br />

platform to the Directors of PSCs<br />

for discussion and devising a<br />

joint strategy to enhance the<br />

standard of these Centres.<br />

He dispelled the impression that<br />

HEC has stopped financial<br />

support for research grants,<br />

travel grants, organization of<br />

conferences, strengthening<br />

libraries and short term faculty<br />

support, etc. Even some of the<br />

Centres received substantial<br />

amounts but that was not<br />

utilized, so all of you need to be<br />

proactive,” he said.<br />

Regarding the issue of quality<br />

intake at post graduate level, Dr.<br />

Naqvi said that enrolment versus<br />

quality problem could be easily<br />

solved if students are admitted<br />

at undergraduate level and<br />

groomed for higher studies at<br />

these Centres.<br />

The Executive Director said that<br />

different Centres should also<br />

collaborate for bringing out<br />

research journals. “It is not<br />

necessary that each Centre has<br />

its own journal.” He also urged<br />

the participants to utilize the<br />

video-conferencing facility as a<br />

tool for temporary support.<br />

Workshop on<br />

Research Techniques<br />

in Social Sciences<br />

A three-day workshop on Effective Research Techniques in<br />

Social Sciences was recently held at HEC Regional Centre,<br />

Karachi. Thirty faculty members representing different<br />

universities/institutions of Sindh attended the workshop.<br />

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ishrat Hussain,<br />

Director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.<br />

He said that research in the area of Social Sciences was<br />

previously neglected. He highlighted the need for research in<br />

Social Sciences, and how it creates impact on the socioeconomic<br />

development of the country.<br />

On the first day, Dr. Syed Jaffar Ahmed, Department of<br />

Pakistan Studies, University of Karachi discussed in detail the<br />

Proforma developed by HEC for research grant in Social<br />

Science.<br />

On the second day, Dr. Fatah Muhammad Burfat, Department<br />

of Sociology, University of Karachi highlighted the research<br />

methodologies and its impact on country's development.<br />

On third day, Dr. Moonis Ahmar, Department of International<br />

Relations, University of Karachi shared his experience related<br />

to effective research techniques and discussed its<br />

importance.<br />

Dr. Nasiruddin Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi<br />

was chief guest in the concluding ceremony. He appreciated<br />

HEC Regional Centre for conducting the workshop on a very<br />

Indigenous<br />

Fellowships<br />

under Phase-II<br />

The English Language Teaching Reform<br />

(ELTR), under its Phase-II, has launched<br />

Long-Term Indigenous Fellowships<br />

Programme in four universities for the<br />

faculty of public sector colleges/<br />

universities.<br />

This is the only project of HEC through<br />

which the college sector has also<br />

b e n e f i t t e d t h r o u g h i t s faculty<br />

development programme. So far, 125<br />

faculty members of public sector colleges<br />

and universities have benefitted from such<br />

long-term fellowships under ELTR (Phase-<br />

I). The Project will award 150 long-term<br />

fellowships under Phase-II.<br />

The fellowships are being offered in MPhil<br />

(TESL) at Beaconhouse National<br />

University, Lahore, MA (ELT and<br />

Linguistics) at University of the Punjab,<br />

Lahore, Advance Diploma (TEFL) at<br />

Forman Christian College University,<br />

Lahore and ADP (TEFL) at Aga Khan<br />

University, Karachi.<br />

Almost 60 fellowships have been awarded<br />

to the universities for <strong>2010</strong>-11. The<br />

candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and<br />

Balochistan have been allocated special<br />

seats at University of the Punjab, because<br />

no university from these provinces<br />

submitted a proposal for long-term<br />

fellowships.<br />

Those fulltime/permanent faculty<br />

members of public sector colleges and<br />

universities are eligible, who are teaching<br />

English at graduate and post graduate<br />

level, are under 50 years of age, and have<br />

a minimum of 16-year education, besides<br />

at least one year experience of teaching<br />

English as a subject.<br />

NSPP to Award Degree in Public<br />

Sector Service Management<br />

The <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> has allowed the<br />

National School of Public Policy (NSPP) to award Master's<br />

degree in Public Sector Service Management. This was<br />

decided at a meeting held at HEC Secretariat, attended by<br />

officials from HEC and NSPP.<br />

The meeting also agreed that curricula for different<br />

programmes developed by NSPP will be subsequently<br />

placed before the National Curriculum Revision Committee<br />

which shall comprise representatives of universities as well<br />

as the NSPP.<br />

The curriculum for Masters in Public Sector (Services)<br />

Management to be offered at the NSPP through Pakistan<br />

Administrative Staff College, a constituent unit of NSPP,<br />

has been developed as a result of extensive discussions<br />

with Harvard Business School, Kennedy School of<br />

Governance in USA, London School of Economics, National<br />

Institute of Governance UK as well as Civilian Training<br />

Institutions in Malaysia and is based on HEC's curriculum<br />

for Masters in Public Administration.<br />

The decision has come after institutional accreditation of<br />

NSPP which will follow programme accreditation for<br />

various degree programmes and various specializations to<br />

be offered by NSPP.<br />

Prize<br />

Prof. Dr. Qasim Jan, former Vice Chancellor of<br />

Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and<br />

University of Peshawar received the<br />

prestigious prize of Islamic Scientific and<br />

Cultural Organization (ISESCO) for his<br />

sustained contributions in Mineralogy,<br />

Petrology, Geochemistry, Tectonics and<br />

Seismology of the Northwest Himalaya.<br />

The prize was awarded by Tan Sri Muhyiddin<br />

Yasin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, at<br />

Dr. Qasim Jan is a renowned geologist and a<br />

reputed academician. He has conducted a<br />

number of collaborative projects with<br />

scientists from USA, UK, other European<br />

Countries, Japan and China.<br />

He has some 245 publications in national and<br />

international journals He obtained his PhD<br />

from the University of London in 1977 and<br />

was awarded DSc (Honorary) degree by<br />

King’s College London in 2009.<br />

Dr. Qasim has undertaken Post-doctoral<br />

research at the universities of Oregon and<br />

Oklahoma (USA), Leicester (UK), and<br />

Dartmouth College, USA. Currently, he is<br />

Secretary General of the Pakistan Academy of<br />

Sciences, and Association of the Academies of<br />

Sciences in Asia.<br />

A preliminary meeting of the<br />

National Curriculum Revision<br />

Committee (NCRC) in Home<br />

Economics was held at HEC<br />

Regional Centre, Lahore from<br />

<strong>October</strong> 11-13, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

The major objective of the<br />

meeting was to develop draft<br />

curriculum for four-year<br />

i n t e g r a t e d B S d e g r e e<br />

programme in Home Economics,<br />

following semester system of<br />

examination.<br />

Dr. Altaf Ali G. Shaikh, Member<br />

(Academics), HEC briefed the<br />

p a r t i c i p a n t s a b o u t t h e<br />

obligations of HEC for review,<br />

revision and development of<br />

curricula. He said that the<br />

<strong>Commission</strong> is coordinating with<br />

respective universities to change<br />

annual examination to the<br />

semester system.<br />

“HEC is striving hard to enhance<br />

the quality of education in public<br />

sector universities/institutions<br />

by developing curricula and<br />

making it more compatible with<br />

international standards, joboriented<br />

and in line with the<br />

completing <strong>Higher</strong> Secondary<br />

School Certificate in Home<br />

Economics from colleges will get<br />

the equivalence certificate from<br />

IBCC to fulfill eligibility criteria.<br />

Dr. Tahir Ali Shah briefed the<br />

committee members about<br />

s t a n d a r d t e m p l a t e f o r<br />

curriculum development of fouryear<br />

BS degree programme. He<br />

informed the committee about<br />

credit hours requirements as<br />

well as foundation, major and<br />

elective subject courses. He said<br />

that the compulsory courses<br />

have already been developed by<br />

the respective NCRCs.<br />

After three-day deliberations,<br />

the Committee drafted the fouryear<br />

curriculum with five major<br />

areas of specializations,<br />

Textiles and Clothing, Art and<br />

Mathematics<br />

on World Map<br />

The Abdus Salam School of<br />

Mathematics Sciences (ASSMS),<br />

Government College University,<br />

Lahore has put Pakistani<br />

Mathematics on the world map,<br />

as the European Mathematical<br />

S o c i e t y ( E M S ) h a s<br />

acknowledged the School as the<br />

Emerging Regional Centre of<br />

Excellence (ERCE) for its<br />

contributions to research at the<br />

international level.<br />

The recognition implies that<br />

young scholars from the<br />

developing countries will receive<br />

support from the European<br />

Union (EU), UNESCO and other<br />

international organizations to<br />

enrol at ASSMS for advanced<br />

studies in diverse areas of<br />

Mathematical Sciences.<br />

EMS will also arrange for the<br />

School European funding for its<br />

further improvement and<br />

came at a joint meeting of EMS<br />

Countries (CDC) and UNESCO in<br />

acknowledged by EMS as<br />

Fourteen PhD scholars and 86<br />

The Lahore University of Management Sciences<br />

(LUMS), which is celebrating 25 years of academic<br />

excellence this year, held its 22 annual convocation<br />

recently.<br />

The LUMS community celebrated the graduation of<br />

626 students and honoured its outstanding students<br />

with awards and medals for excellence in academic<br />

performances.<br />

On the occasion, the National Management<br />

Foundation, the governing body at LUMS, awarded<br />

gold and silver medals to graduates securing top<br />

positions in various programmes. Dr. Mehmood<br />

An evening earlier, the traditional Graduate Night<br />

Dinner was held where graduates achieving<br />

distinctions in subject areas and those making it to<br />

the coveted Dean's Honour List were awarded<br />

medals and shields.<br />

Sixty-seven graduating students who made it to the<br />

Dean's Honour list and/or received Corporate Gold<br />

Medals were honoured. The first two alumni batches<br />

(MBA 1988, MBA 1989) were also invited to the<br />

Graduate Night Dinner.<br />

The idea was for the newest alumni batch to see the<br />

earliest alumni who contributed largely to the<br />

success and repute of their alma mater.<br />

HEC Announces Prize of Rs. 100,000<br />

Inam Wins Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games<br />

Muhammad Inam, HEC Wrestler (84 kg) won gold<br />

medal while representing Pakistan in the<br />

Commonwealth Games recently held in India. He is<br />

the first Pakistani to win a gold medal in<br />

Commonwealth Games in 20 years.<br />

HEC groomed this player who became part of the<br />

national team. Inam, MBA student at University of<br />

the Punjab, participated in both freestyle and Greco-<br />

Roman wrestling at the <strong>2010</strong> Commonwealth<br />

Games. He won gold medal in freestyle wrestling<br />

against his Indian opponent, Anuj Kumar.<br />

Earlier, Inam has also represented HEC in National<br />

Junior Championship and won<br />

gold medal in May 2009, besides<br />

winning bronze medal in National<br />

Senior Wrestling Championship<br />

in March <strong>2010</strong>. He is a recipient of<br />

HEC scholarship for sports.<br />

On his return from India, Inam<br />

was received by Mr. Talat Khurshid, Director General<br />

(Sports) HEC along with Mr. Khaliq Khan, Secretary<br />

General, Pakistan Olympic Association.<br />

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khurshid announced a<br />

CM Inaugurates Lahore<br />

Biotechnology Park<br />

in the national economy. He said the Government of<br />

Punjab was well aware of the importance of<br />

Biotechnology and its use in the areas of health,<br />

agriculture, environment, industry, vaccine<br />

production and genetic improvement of livestock for<br />

better production.<br />

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Member (Operations and<br />

Planning) stressed that the Government must<br />

enhance funding for higher education sector, which<br />

was catering to only 0.5 per cent population in the<br />

country at present.<br />

Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister, Punjab has called<br />

for developing knowledge-based economy through<br />

research and developing better technologies. He<br />

was speaking at a National Biotechnology Exhibition<br />

and Seminar <strong>2010</strong> organized by the Institute of<br />

Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of<br />

Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore in<br />

collaboration with HEC. The Chief Minister also<br />

launched the Lahore Biotechnology Park (LBP) on<br />

the occasion.<br />

The Chief Minister said that the farmers were worst<br />

hit in the history of Pakistan and it was high time that<br />

they should be helped to become contributors again<br />

Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Vice Chancellor, UVAS said,<br />

“UVAS is playing a pivotal role for development of<br />

research in Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Our<br />

research output of international standard has made<br />

a quantum jump and we have been ranked at<br />

number 12 out of 82 research universities of<br />

Pakistan. We have the expertise to produce all<br />

poultry and animals vaccines and these vaccines are<br />

important for disease prevention and establishing<br />

disease-free zones for export purposes.”<br />

Newcastle Sign MoU<br />

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed<br />

between LUMS and the University of Newcastle,<br />

Australia for research collaboration and student<br />

exchange between the Suleman Dawood School of<br />

Business (SDSB), LUMS and the Faculty of Business<br />

and Law, University of Newcastle.<br />

The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmad J. Durrani,<br />

Vice Chancellor, LUMS and Dr. Nick Saunders, Vice<br />

Chancellor and President, University of Newcastle.<br />

The ceremony was attended by Ms. Fauzia Nasreen,<br />

Newcastle Business School is University's centre for<br />

representatives of civil society from across the country<br />

The participants welcomed the devolution of education<br />

sector to provinces but stressed the need for Federal role<br />

foster national unity. It was emphasized that this<br />

devolution may create short-term difficulties but it would<br />

AAUR Relief Efforts for Flood Affectees<br />

An eight-member team of volunteers from the Khushab<br />

Campus of Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (AAUR),<br />

including faculty members and students, established a<br />

flood relief camp in flood affected area of District Khushab.<br />

The team provided free outdoor treatment facility to the<br />

flood affected livestock, besides collaborating with the<br />

Livestock and Dairy Development Department for<br />

vaccination of animals. The team set relief<br />

camps in Sandral, Hamoka, Dhak and Talokar<br />

and their peripheries Ghag, Nurwana, Kora,<br />

Jasowal, Diauwal, Bansi, Balwal and Jhugian.<br />

The most prevalent problems seen by team in<br />

this area were pneumonia, indigestion,<br />

lameness, mastitis, enteritis, allergy, snake<br />

bite, septic wound, toxemia, etc.<br />

A two member delegation of Agricultural<br />

University, Peshawar (AUP) comprising Prof. Dr.<br />

Research, visited Universities of Tsukuba and<br />

Chiba in Japan under HEC's sponsored “Linkages<br />

discussed full-time PhD programme, joint/split<br />

PhD supervision, joint research projects, joint<br />

conferences/workshops, evaluation of<br />

Universities agreed to waive off full tuition fee for<br />

faculty of Agricultural University, Peshawar, which will<br />

help in saving more than Rs. 30 million on 20 PhD<br />

projects.<br />

The event was organized by<br />

The Quaid-i-Azam University Alumni Association recently<br />

organized “Quaidian Family Festival and Job Fair <strong>2010</strong>” at<br />

University premises. The alumni members from across<br />

Pakistan participated in the event. The event, a<br />

collaborative effort of Quaidian Intellectual Forum and the<br />

Alumni Association, was organized as part of fund raising<br />

camping to support and show solidarity with 37 per cent<br />

enrolled students belonging to flood affected regions.<br />

The Festival was galaxy of stalls of various<br />

Farmers Gathering<br />

UAF Workshop on<br />

Edible Oilseed Crops<br />

The Department of Agronomy, University of<br />

Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) recently organized<br />

a workshop entitled “Edible Oilseed Crops:<br />

Threats and Challenges from Production to<br />

Consumption,” in collaboration with Pakistan<br />

Society of Agronomy.<br />

The major objectives of the workshop were to<br />

identify the threats and challenges in edible oil<br />

production in the country, find out possible<br />

solutions to overcome these challenges, and to<br />

establish linkages among different stakeholders.<br />

“Pakistan is facing acute water shortage and most of<br />

the farmers are forced to pump underground water for<br />

irrigation purpose which is not fit for this purpose.”<br />

This was stated by Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice<br />

Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF)<br />

while addressing Farmers Gathering regarding<br />

Management of Poor Quality Water on Salt-Affected<br />

Soils at Proca Farm recently.<br />

Dr. Khan said that UAF is striving for transfer of<br />

technology under out-reach programme, in order to<br />

bring prosperous Green Revolution in the country. He<br />

reiterated his commitment for development of<br />

innovative and farmer friendly technology.<br />

The Vice Chancellor said that MSc and PhD level theses<br />

have great potential for new technological revolution<br />

but due to resources constraints this knowledge could<br />

not be translated into action.<br />

Dr. Anwaar-ul-Hassan, Director, Institute of Soil and<br />

Environmental Sciences, UAF highlighted the EFS<br />

project, adding that barren land and saline soils are<br />

being rehabilitated by UAF, which is very encouraging<br />

for farmers who are facing problems due to brackish<br />

water.<br />

Dr. Ghulam Murtaza Sindhu, Director Farms, shared his<br />

experience to rehabilitate the saline affected soil. Dr.<br />

Abdul Ghafoor, Dr. Amjad Aulakh and farmers of the<br />

area also spoke on the occasion.<br />

Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor, UAF was<br />

chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Zahid Atta<br />

Cheema, Chairman, Department of Agronomy,<br />

who is also President of Pakistan Society of<br />

Agronomy, and Dr. M. Ashfaq, Dean, Faculty of<br />

Agriculture were also present.<br />

The event gave a deep insight into the threats<br />

and challenges faced by the oil seed crop<br />

industry. Groups of participants were formed to<br />

discuss and find researchable issues as well as<br />

solutions to the challenges of edible oil imports,<br />

and making Pakistan a self-reliant country in<br />

edible oil production.<br />

The researchable issues were finalized in the<br />

concluding session and strategy was developed<br />

for public-private partnership by establishing<br />

links with seed companies, which promised to<br />

offer scholarships to university students and to<br />

support the research on edible oilseed crops.<br />

Progressive farmers' input regarding production,<br />

seed availability problems and marketing issues<br />

were also discussed.<br />

The Managing Director, Pakistan Oilseed<br />

Development Board (PODB)) suggested some<br />

remedies to solve the issues of growers as well as<br />

marketing problems. He also elaborated the<br />

details of Olive Cultivation Project in barani areas<br />

supported by the Government of Italy.<br />

DUHS, Turkish Team<br />

Jointly Help Flood Victims<br />

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi is<br />

providing free healthcare services to flood affectees in various<br />

areas of Sindh province. A 13-member Turkish team visited<br />

DUHS, along with medicine and medical equipment to help flood<br />

affectees.<br />

The University collaborated with the doctors from International<br />

Health and <strong>Education</strong> Association, Turkey to setup a 10-day free<br />

medical and flood relief camp in different areas of Sindh including<br />

Gadap, Gharo, Makkli and Mirpursakro, etc. to cover maximum<br />

possible health related problems.<br />

Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS, briefed the<br />

Turkish team regarding University's flood relief work and medical<br />

services. The team also assured their full support and<br />

cooperation. A team of 40 members of DUHS including<br />

consultants, doctors, staff and medical students accompanied<br />

two awareness sessions on quality<br />

assurance in higher education for top<br />

management and faculty members. Dr.<br />

Mohammad Abdul Wahid Usmani,<br />

(QEC), Dow University of health<br />

Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, was the<br />

resource person for both the sessions.<br />

The main objective was to equip the<br />

top management and the faculty of the<br />

University with necessary skills, and to<br />

have command over the areas related<br />

to quality assurance that has become<br />

one of the major concerns of higher<br />

focused on areas such as International<br />

GIKIAA to Continue<br />

Financing Students<br />

The members of the Executive Council (EC) of the<br />

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute Alumni Association<br />

(GIKIAA) said that the provision of financial assistances<br />

would continue and at present the Association has been<br />

financing about 10 deserving students of the Institute<br />

on merit-cum-need basis. They decided to provide Rs.<br />

1.2 million in the current academic year.<br />

The delegation comprising Mr. Tahir Akbar, President<br />

GIKIAA, Mr. Abu Bakr Bin Zahid, Joint Secretary, Mr.<br />

Umar Inam and Mr. Owais Sher met Mr. Jehangir<br />

Bashar, Rector, GIKI, Deans, officer bearers of 24<br />

Media Festival at GIKI<br />

A three-day All Pakistan Media Festival was held<br />

at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of<br />

Engineering, Sciences and Technology. The<br />

festival was organized by GIK Institute Media<br />

Club and both girls and boys from all over the<br />

country participated in the event.<br />

Journalists from both electronic and print media,<br />

especially members of Abaseen Union of<br />

Journalists, and Gandhara Union of Journalists<br />

participated in the festival.<br />

The festival aimed to educate the students about<br />

both electronic and print media while providing<br />

them a platform to put forward their suggestions<br />

and skills which would be beneficial for them as<br />

well as masses of the country.<br />

The students exchanged views with their<br />

colleagues who belonged to different provinces<br />

and universities of the country. The participants<br />

said that electronic media has changed the entire<br />

spectrum during the last few years and it has also<br />

adversely affected the print media in the country.<br />

QAU Inaugurates School<br />

of Management Sciences<br />

The Quaid-i-Azam School of Management Sciences<br />

(QASMS) has been inaugurated at the Quaid-i-Azam<br />

University (QAU), Islamabad. It would offer Bachelor in<br />

Business Administration (BBA) with specialization in<br />

Marketing, Finance and Human Resource<br />

Management. Previously, it was the Department of<br />

Administrative Sciences.<br />

Malaysian Universities<br />

The Greenwich University has signed<br />

Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with<br />

two universities in Malaysia, Limkokwing<br />

University and Universiti Malaysia Perlis as a<br />

part of its commitment to raising the<br />

standard of education.<br />

The objective of the collaboration is to<br />

strengthen, promote and develop<br />

cooperation with Malaysia, which has<br />

emerged as an economic leader in Asia by<br />

setting high standards in education.<br />

Universiti Malaysia Perlis is a State<br />

university of Malaysia, which enjoys the<br />

reputation of an internationally competitive<br />

academic and research institution offering<br />

courses in engineering, computer, and<br />

communication from bachelors to PhD level.<br />

Limkokwing University is an International<br />

University with a global presence across<br />

three continents, with over 30000 students<br />

studying from more than 150 countries.<br />

The universities will extend cooperation to<br />

each other in the field of research through<br />

The International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI)<br />

recently hosted a seminar on “United States, Pakistan and<br />

China Relations in the Changing Regional Scenario” in<br />

collaboration with Pakistan-China Institute.<br />

Prominent US Scholar, Prof. Stephen Cohen, was the<br />

keynote speaker on the occasion. Others speakers included<br />

Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, President IIUI, Mr. Mushahid<br />

Institute for Research and Dialogue, IIUI.<br />

Speakers highlighted the role of friendly relations among<br />

US, Pakistan and China for benefit of the region as a whole.<br />

In his keynote address, Prof. Cohen said that it is in best<br />

interest of the US to acknowledge the role of China and<br />

Pakistan in the changing world scenario as no single country<br />

is capable of giving the world peace and stability. He<br />

admitted that it was China which always played a positive<br />

role in the world soon after its independence in 1949.<br />

Dr. Siddiqui highlighted the role of educational institutions<br />

for peace and harmony in the society. He said that IIUI is<br />

preparing young generation in building future of human<br />

beings.<br />

Mr. Sayyed spoke on role of Pak-China Institute and said that<br />

it was established to strengthen relations with China in all<br />

walks of life. Mr. Riaz Ahmed Khan, former Foreign Secretary<br />

and Dr. Maliha Lodhi, former envoy to UK and USA, also<br />

addressed the gathering.<br />

auspices of Shams-ul-Ulama Mirza Kalich Beg Chair. Dr.<br />

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bughio said that Mirza<br />

Kalich Beg played a pioneering role in Sindhi literature<br />

and, through translations, he not only enriched Sindhi<br />

language but also introduced many foreign scholars to<br />

KMU Workshop<br />

on Medical Ethics<br />

The aim of the workshop was to initiate a<br />

dialogue on the issue and develop preliminary<br />

recommendations for c o n s i d e ra t i o n ,<br />

implementation and further discussion. The<br />

theme of the discussion was “Practicing Ethical<br />

Medicine in a Challenging Environment”.<br />

In his remarks, Mr. Ijaz Rahim lamented the<br />

growing commercialism in the society. He said<br />

there were role models in the past but social<br />

values of the modern society had been changed.<br />

The Directorate of Research and Development, Khyber<br />

Medical University (KMU), Peshawar organized a twoday<br />

workshop and panel discussion on “Medical Ethics”<br />

at Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI).<br />

Mr. Ijaz Rahim, former Chief Secretary, Khyber<br />

Pakhtunkhwa, was the chief guest while Dr.<br />

Mohammad Hafizullah, Vice Chancellor, KMU<br />

participated in the panel discussion as Co-Chair.<br />

Dr. Hafizullah said that the issue of medical ethics<br />

was ignored in the past but KMU has taken a bold<br />

step to debate the subject and to gather<br />

suggestions from all stakeholders. He assured<br />

that KMU will continue to hold such activities and<br />

“during reformation of medical curriculum at<br />

various levels, we shall include suggestions<br />

pertaining to ethics capacity development.”<br />

Workshop on<br />

Flood Disaster Management<br />

towards the universities and higher education<br />

institutions to come forward and reach out to the<br />

troubled and re-located affected population. He said<br />

in post-flood situation, Pakistan would be venturing<br />

to face a largest rehabilitation of around 50 million<br />

people and a large livestock.<br />

Dr. Sohail Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC stressed<br />

that each university should develop its plan in line<br />

with its expertise and pool their resources to do<br />

relief and rehabilitation work in a systematic<br />

manner.<br />

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences<br />

(UVAS), Lahore organized a national workshop on<br />

“Flood Disaster Management” to develop strategic<br />

recommendations for relief and rehabilitation of<br />

flood-hit livestock populations.<br />

More than 80 participants representing universities,<br />

livestock departments, federal research institutions,<br />

medical profession, Pakistan Veterinary Medical<br />

Council and Pakistan Medical Society attended the<br />

workshop.<br />

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Javaid R. Laghari,<br />

Chairperson HEC, said the <strong>Commission</strong> is looking<br />

the University volunteer teams had vaccinated some<br />

60,000 animals besides performing de-worming and<br />

other treatment in flood-hit areas.<br />

recommendation, which were later compiled by Dr.<br />

Rabbani and Dr. Nasim Ahmad. Recommendations<br />

developed by key scientists from all over the country<br />

are very useful for the implementation of relief and<br />

rehabilitation measures in flood affected areas.<br />

UVAS Workshop on<br />

Angiogenesis, Toxicology<br />

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Muhammad<br />

Nawaz, Vice Chancellor, UVAS appreciated the<br />

initiative taken by the <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Commission</strong><br />

(HEC) for promotion of scientific research in<br />

Pakistan.<br />

Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Director Research and<br />

Chairman, Department of Pharmacology and<br />

Toxicology also expressed his gratitude to HEC for<br />

providing financial support so as to invite foreign<br />

scientist for this workshop.<br />

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology,<br />

University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences<br />

(UVAS), Lahore organized a one-week workshop on<br />

“Modern Techniques in Angiogenesis and<br />

Toxicology”, in collaboration with the Department of<br />

Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge, UK.<br />

Dr. Sohail Ejaz from Department of Clinical<br />

Neurosciences, Addenbrooke's Hospital, University<br />

of Cambridge, was the resource person for this<br />

training workshop.<br />

The efforts of Dr. Sohail Ejaz for conducting the<br />

workshop served as a milestone to improve the<br />

technical skills of more than 100 young scientists<br />

and faculty members from assorted research<br />

domains.<br />

Dr. Ejaz also visited University College of Pharmacy<br />

(UCP), University of the Punjab and delivered a<br />

seminar on Angiogenesis. He emphasized upon the<br />

students and faculty members for conducting<br />

collaborative research and establishment of<br />

Angiogenesis research laboratory at the University.<br />
