Universities Asked to Develop
Internal Quality Assurance System
quality provision in higher
education sector and review of
current policies for continuity
and facilitation in responding to
global advancements and
challenges.
T h e h i g h e r e d u c a t i o n
institutions should take
responsibility of developing
effective internal quality
assurance system. Quality
Enhancement Cells, established
by the Quality Assurance
Agency, have played an
important role for sensitizing
academia so as to promote
q u a l i t y c u l t u r e i n t h e
universities.
This was the consensus among
th
participants of the 17 meeting
of the National Quality
Assurance Committee (NQAC)
held at HEC Regional Centre,
Lahore.
Chaired by Dr. Abdul Raouf,
National Distinguish Professor,
the meeting was attended by Dr.
Sohail Naqvi, Executive Director,
HEC along with vice chancellors
of the major public sector
universities.
The Committee has been formed
by HEC as an advisory body for

criteria of HEC Approved
Supervisors, the Committee
s u g g e s t e d t o i n c l u d e
r e s e a r c h e r s f r o m R & D
organizations only if they are
appointed as adjunct faculty
members in the universities.
It also discussed Role of
A c c r e d i t a t i o n C o u n c i l s ,
O r g a n i z a t i o n o f T h i r d
International Conference on
Quality Assurance in Higher
Education, Workload of Faculty,
and Curriculum Design.
Appreciating the progress made
by the Accreditation Councils,
the Committee advised that a
mechanism for selection of the
Chairman of the Councils should
be developed as per national
and international practices.
HEC, British Council to Organize
Regional Policy Dialogue
T h e H i g h e r E d u c a t i o n
Commission, in collaboration
with the British Council, is
organizing a Regional Policy
Dialogue from November 23-25,
2010. Through this policy
dialogue, delegates will work
towards an understanding of
national policies, institutional
approaches and outreach
programmes which enable
knowledge transfer for economic
and social benefit. This major
regional symposium will explore
what education providers,
governments and industry can
do together to encourage
knowledge transfer and to
support its development within
the higher education sector.
It will be a three- day event and
will feature keynote sessions,
roundtable reviews, panel
discussions, parallel sessions
and action planning meetings. It
is expected that this event will
provide a framework for future
collaborative work around this
Knowledge Transfer Initiative.
There will be a modest seed corn
fund available to develop
collaborative work, for example,
to develop case studies. The
details of this fund will be
announced at the event.
The learning from this event and
similar policy dialogues in 2010
will be taken forward to the next
Going Global Conference to be
held in Hong Kong April 2011.
