Commission Events The Learning Innovation (LI) Division, HEC has launched the th 14 batch of Master Trainers F a c u l t y P r o f e s s i o n a l Development Programme (FPDP). The Programme, which will continue until November 13, 2010, is being attended by 30 faculty members from 25 public and HEC funded private sector universities across Pakistan. th 14 Master Trainers FPDP Begins This programme is designed specifically for freshly inducted in-service teachers who learn the principles of learning techniques through rigorous training. It aims to enable University teachers to use innovative teaching strategies and communication skills that blend academic concepts with workplace applications. In this regard, 11 exclusive modules will be covered by eminent resource persons. Dr. Syed Mahmood Raza, Adviser (Quality Assurance and Learning Innovation) HEC was chief guest in the opening ceremony held at HEC Secretariat. Ms. Noor Amna M a l i k , D i r e c t o r G e n e ra l (Learning Innovation) HEC and Mr. Muhammad Raza Chohan, Director (Learning Innovation) HEC were also present at the occasion. Dr. Syed Mahmood Raza stressed in-service capacity building of the university faculty. He shared his personal experiences with the course participants and briefed the relation of quality education with quality teachers. Mr. Chohan presented the major programme and activities of the Division. Ms. Malik introduced the participants with the major aims of the Learning Innovation Division, which is a hub for empowering academic and administrative leaders of the universities towards sustained quality education. To enrich the learning process, LI Division engages experts of multi-disciplinary fields as resource persons, who share t h e i r e x p e r i e n c e s a n d knowledge gathered from latest academic content and research on “Teaching as a Profession”, “ C o m m u n i c a t i o n S k i l l s ”, “Assessment and Evaluation” and other modules. This programme also provides an e x c e l l e n t n e t w o r k i n g opportunity with faculty members from all over the country. Scholar Wins Award at Eurasia Conference Prof. Dr. Hasan Mahmood Khan, Director, National Centre of Excellence (NCE) in Physical Chemistry, University of Peshawar has been awarded the Best Oral Presentation Prize and th a shield at the 11 Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences recently held in Jordon. Another scientist from HEJ Institute Karachi was also awarded a prize on oral presentation. Dr. Khan along with Dr. Jan Nisar, another faculty member of NCE, presented their research work at the Conference, which was attended by senior professors and scientists of 61 countries from Europe, Asia and USA including several nobel prize winners in Chemistry who also presented their work. His research presentation entitled "Radiation induced degradation of lindane in water" was based on the removal of commonly used pesticide and persistent organic pollutant (POPs) lindane (hexachloro cyclohexane) in water using a d v a n c e d o x i d a t i o n technologies. This research has been done as a part of HEC funded research project. Earlier, the Centre was placed at the top position amongst the 24 Centres in the country by HEC and the Ministry of Education on excellent research and academic performance. 2
