LUMS Holds 22 Convocation<br />
The Lahore University of Management Sciences<br />
(LUMS), which is celebrating 25 years of academic<br />
nd<br />
excellence this year, held its 22 annual convocation<br />
recently.<br />
The LUMS community celebrated the graduation of<br />
626 students and honoured its outstanding students<br />
with awards and medals for excellence in academic<br />
performances.<br />
On the occasion, the National Management<br />
Foundation, the governing body at LUMS, awarded<br />
gold and silver medals to graduates securing top<br />
positions in various programmes. Dr. Mehmood<br />
Khan, Senior Vice-President and Chief Scientific<br />
Officer, PepsiCo Inc, was keynote speaker at the<br />
convocation. He spoke about how reinventing<br />
yourself is vital throughout one’s career. He<br />
emphasized the importance of aspiring to be a<br />
leader and the eagerness to learn.<br />
An evening earlier, the traditional Graduate Night<br />
Dinner was held where graduates achieving<br />
distinctions in subject areas and those making it to<br />
the coveted Dean's Honour List were awarded<br />
medals and shields.<br />
Sixty-seven graduating students who made it to the<br />
Dean's Honour list and/or received Corporate Gold<br />
Medals were honoured. The first two alumni batches<br />
(MBA 1988, MBA 1989) were also invited to the<br />
Graduate Night Dinner.<br />
The idea was for the newest alumni batch to see the<br />
earliest alumni who contributed largely to the<br />
success and repute of their alma mater.<br />
HEC Announces Prize of Rs. 100,000<br />
Inam Wins Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games<br />
Muhammad Inam, HEC Wrestler (84 kg) won gold<br />
medal while representing Pakistan in the<br />
Commonwealth Games recently held in India. He is<br />
the first Pakistani to win a gold medal in<br />
Commonwealth Games in 20 years.<br />
HEC groomed this player who became part of the<br />
national team. Inam, MBA student at University of<br />
the Punjab, participated in both freestyle and Greco-<br />
Roman wrestling at the <strong>2010</strong> Commonwealth<br />
Games. He won gold medal in freestyle wrestling<br />
against his Indian opponent, Anuj Kumar.<br />
Earlier, Inam has also represented HEC in National<br />
Junior Championship and won<br />
gold medal in May 2009, besides<br />
winning bronze medal in National<br />
Senior Wrestling Championship<br />
in March <strong>2010</strong>. He is a recipient of<br />
HEC scholarship for sports.<br />
On his return from India, Inam<br />
was received by Mr. Talat Khurshid, Director General<br />
(Sports) HEC along with Mr. Khaliq Khan, Secretary<br />
General, Pakistan Olympic Association.<br />
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khurshid announced a<br />
cash prize of Rs. 100,000 on behalf of HEC for Inam.<br />
