DUHS, Turkish Team<br />
Jointly Help Flood Victims<br />
The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi is<br />
providing free healthcare services to flood affectees in various<br />
areas of Sindh province. A 13-member Turkish team visited<br />
DUHS, along with medicine and medical equipment to help flood<br />
affectees.<br />
The University collaborated with the doctors from International<br />
Health and <strong>Education</strong> Association, Turkey to setup a 10-day free<br />
medical and flood relief camp in different areas of Sindh including<br />
Gadap, Gharo, Makkli and Mirpursakro, etc. to cover maximum<br />
possible health related problems.<br />
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS, briefed the<br />
Turkish team regarding University's flood relief work and medical<br />
services. The team also assured their full support and<br />
cooperation. A team of 40 members of DUHS including<br />
consultants, doctors, staff and medical students accompanied<br />
the Turkish team.<br />

Engr. Faizullah Mehar, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering,<br />
Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology (BUET),<br />
Khuzdar presented his paper entitled “Immune Algorithm Based<br />
Fixed Order Controller Design and System Simulation” in an oral<br />
session at the <strong>2010</strong> International Symposium on Signals,<br />
Systems and Electronics (ISSE<strong>2010</strong>) recently held at Nanjing,<br />
China.<br />
Engr. Raza Haider, Lecturer, Electrical Engineering, BUET<br />

presented his research paper in the 10 International Conference<br />
on Clean Energy held at Famagusta, North Cyprus. The visit of<br />
both the scholars was sponsored by the <strong>Higher</strong> <strong>Education</strong><br />
<strong>Commission</strong> (HEC).<br />

at BU Karachi<br />
Bahria University, Karachi organized<br />
two awareness sessions on quality<br />
assurance in higher education for top<br />
management and faculty members. Dr.<br />
Mohammad Abdul Wahid Usmani,<br />
Director, Quality Enhancement Cell<br />
(QEC), Dow University of health<br />
Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, was the<br />
resource person for both the sessions.<br />
The main objective was to equip the<br />
top management and the faculty of the<br />
University with necessary skills, and to<br />
have command over the areas related<br />
to quality assurance that has become<br />
one of the major concerns of higher<br />
education institutions.<br />
The workshop for the top management<br />
focused on areas such as International<br />
Practices of Quality Assurance,<br />
Establishment of Quality Enhancement<br />
Cell (QEC) at Bahria University, its<br />
scope and purpose, its collaboration<br />
and networking with national and<br />
international bodies, etc. Whereas, the<br />
second session was designed for the<br />
QA Cells and other faculty members.<br />
The target area of this phase was the<br />
introduction to quality assurance<br />
measures such as Programme<br />
Evaluation through Self Assessment<br />
Approach.<br />
Dr. Usmani explained the whole<br />
mechanism of Self Assessment<br />
Programme from the formation and<br />
training of Programme Team<br />
responsible to write the Self<br />
Assessment Report (SAR) to the<br />
internal and external audit/<br />
assessment of the SAR.<br />
