DUHS, Turkish Team
Jointly Help Flood Victims
The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi is
providing free healthcare services to flood affectees in various
areas of Sindh province. A 13-member Turkish team visited
DUHS, along with medicine and medical equipment to help flood
affectees.
The University collaborated with the doctors from International
Health and Education Association, Turkey to setup a 10-day free
medical and flood relief camp in different areas of Sindh including
Gadap, Gharo, Makkli and Mirpursakro, etc. to cover maximum
possible health related problems.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS, briefed the
Turkish team regarding University's flood relief work and medical
services. The team also assured their full support and
cooperation. A team of 40 members of DUHS including
consultants, doctors, staff and medical students accompanied
the Turkish team.

Papers in Int'l Conferences
Engr. Faizullah Mehar, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering,
Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology (BUET),
Khuzdar presented his paper entitled “Immune Algorithm Based
Fixed Order Controller Design and System Simulation” in an oral
session at the 2010 International Symposium on Signals,
Systems and Electronics (ISSE2010) recently held at Nanjing,
China.
Engr. Raza Haider, Lecturer, Electrical Engineering, BUET

presented his research paper in the 10 International Conference
on Clean Energy held at Famagusta, North Cyprus. The visit of
both the scholars was sponsored by the Higher Education
Commission (HEC).
Quality
Assurance
Workshops
at BU Karachi
Bahria University, Karachi organized
two awareness sessions on quality
assurance in higher education for top
management and faculty members. Dr.
Mohammad Abdul Wahid Usmani,
Director, Quality Enhancement Cell
(QEC), Dow University of health
Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, was the
resource person for both the sessions.
The main objective was to equip the
top management and the faculty of the
University with necessary skills, and to
have command over the areas related
to quality assurance that has become
one of the major concerns of higher
education institutions.
The workshop for the top management
focused on areas such as International
Practices of Quality Assurance,
Establishment of Quality Enhancement
Cell (QEC) at Bahria University, its
scope and purpose, its collaboration
and networking with national and
international bodies, etc. Whereas, the
second session was designed for the
QA Cells and other faculty members.
The target area of this phase was the
introduction to quality assurance
measures such as Programme
Evaluation through Self Assessment
Approach.
Dr. Usmani explained the whole
mechanism of Self Assessment
Programme from the formation and
training of Programme Team
responsible to write the Self
Assessment Report (SAR) to the
internal and external audit/
assessment of the SAR.
