News From Our Classrooms…<br />

Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Waschuk’s<br />

Grade 1 Class<br />

The grade one students have been studying cycles in math and<br />

science. We are learning about all the things that go around: seasons,<br />

months, days of the week and times in a day. We continue to work on<br />

nu<strong>mb</strong>ers. As we add and subtract, we count forward and backward. We<br />

count by ones and twos and fives. We <strong>ca</strong>n see how nu<strong>mb</strong>ers <strong>ca</strong>n be<br />

broken into parts and written as equations.<br />

We are also enjoying fairy tales. We have been listening to fairy tales,<br />

and acting out plays. We are now writing our own fairy tales and<br />

creating art and structures related to <strong>ca</strong>stles, dragons and story<br />

characters.<br />

In Social Studies we have been learning about making decisions that<br />

reflect <strong>ca</strong>re, concern, and responsibility for the natural and social<br />

environment that we live in. We have been learning about Manitoba<br />

sy<strong>mb</strong>ols such as the prairie crocus, the white spruce and the great grey<br />

owl. We are learning about Canadian sy<strong>mb</strong>ols and the words to our<br />

national anthem.<br />

Gearing up for Bicycle Safety! The warmer weather is finally here and children are out and about on their<br />

bicycles. The grade 2 students in Mrs. Hall’s class have put together a list of safety rules and suggestions<br />

for a safe and enjoyable bike ride.<br />
