Dear Friends:
For more than 100 years, the Kentucky State Fair has been a
Commonwealth tradition that offers something for everyone,
whether you are young or just young at heart. The 11-day
celebration provides a wealth of exceptional entertainment,
informative exhibits, great food, fun and fellowship and a variety
of experiences that are tough to match.
One key to the success of our fair is the competitions and
activities designed to showcase the best of the best. Thousands
of Kentuckians submit their homemade items, treasured
antiques and family-favorite recipes to show their talents and
win the familiar blue, green and red symbols of excellence.
On behalf of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Jane and I thank
you for your talents and skills that make Kentucky unique.
Sincerely,
Steven L. Beshear
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 2013 Kentucky State Fair!
This signature event is an outstanding entertainment value for the whole
family. You can see the works of some of Kentucky’s leading artists,
photographers, craft persons, and gardeners. You can visit the Pride
of the Counties and the various government and corporate exhibits to
appreciate the diversity and culture of our great Commonwealth. The
rides on the midway provide thrills for “children” of all ages.
As Kentucky’s Commissioner of Agriculture, I especially appreciate the
many agricultural displays and shows. I have many happy memories
of exhibiting livestock in my youth at the state fair. Today, a whole new
“crop” of young people is competing and learning. Some are showing
livestock. Others have brought their 4-H and FFA projects to the fair. I
hope you’ll drop by some of the shows and exhibits and support these
hard-working young people.
It all happens at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Its 1.2 million square
feet of enclosed, climate-controlled space make it one of the leading
convention and exhibition venues in the nation.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture again will do its part to make
the Kentucky State Fair a success. Department staff will help conduct
the livestock shows, check veterinary papers for all livestock that enter
the fairgrounds, lead the judging competitions and skillathons, check the
amusement rides in the midway, and perform numerous other tasks.
Thank you for visiting the Kentucky State Fair. My staff and I will do all we
can to give you an enjoyable and memorable fair experience.
Sincerely,
James R. Comer
Commissioner of Agriculture
