GENERAL RULES:
Videos and PowerPoint presentations must be the original work of the contestant(s). Individual
videographers may submit video entries, or video teams of up to four members may collaborate. All
PowerPoint presentations must be the work of a single individual. All participants submitting entries
must be between the ages of 14 and 20 years old on August 16, 2012. Multiple submissions are allowed,
but a separate entry form is required for each submission.
Finalists will be chosen by a selection committee consisting of agricultural professionals. The Finalist
videos and PowerPoints will be featured in the DISCOVERY FARM EXHIBITION during the Kentucky
State Fair. They may also be included in other educational locations at the Fair or on the Kentucky State
Fair website or Facebook pages.
From the Finalists, one video and one PowerPoint presentation will be chosen as the GRAND PRIZE
WINNERS. The Grand Prize winners in each medium will receive a $250 scholarship ($250 for video;
$250 for PowerPoint). In the case that a video team submits the Grand Prize winner, the prize money
will be evenly distributed among the members of the team.
Judging will be based on creativity, effectiveness of message, factual information, visual appeal,
entertainment value, and interpretive quality (language and concepts accessible to youth and family
audiences).
Videos must be between 1 and 5 minutes in length, must have audio, and may use any method to capture
or create moving images. PowerPoint presentations must have at least 10 and no more than 30 slides
and should not include sound media. All video and PowerPoint entries should begin with a title credit,
including the name(s) of the creator(s).
It is the responsibility of the entrant to comply with state and federal copyright laws.
Entries should exhibit a positive farm message.
The Kentucky State Fair Board holds the right to use the participant names, likeness, city and state of
residence, photos, video, and other images for promotional use without compensation.
All participants are expected to abide by the general rules and regulations of the Kentucky State Fair, posted

Discovery Farm is a KSF exhibition located in South Wing B, introduced in 2010. Discovery Farm offers close-up encounters with
cattle, horses, goats, llamas, sheep, poultry, a sow and her litter, and other farm animals and features learning stations exploring life
on Kentucky farms. The Discovery Farm Video & PowerPoint Presentation Contest is promoted through the Kentucky State Fair
Young Adult Project (YAP), an initiative to involve high school and college youth in the Fair.

hand-deliver during regular business hours to: KSF Discovery Farm Video/PP Contest, c/o Administrative
Offices (Freedom Hall), Kentucky Exposition Center, 937 Phillips Lane, Louisville, KY 40209. Deadline for
receipt (not postmark) is July 16, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST. Alternatively, PowerPoint presentations may
be emailed to Steph Wilding Darst: sdarst@ksfb.ky.gov. Please follow-up with a phone call to Steph to
ensure that the email was received: 502.367.5496. Entry forms may be faxed to Steph at 502.367.5299.
Finalists will be notified by August 1, 2012, and Grand Prize winners will be notified by August 16,
2012.
The Kentucky State Fair Board reserves the right of final decision on any matters pertaining to the KSF
Discovery Farm Video Contest not covered by the competition rules/eligibility requirements.
These rules are designed to make the event fair for everyone. Failure to comply may lead to
disqualification. Thank you for your cooperation.
SUBMISSION OF ENTRY FORM IMPLIES AGREEMENT TO ABIDE BY
COMPETITION RULES AS SET FORTH ABOVE.
Be informative, accurate, & entertaining. Your product should attract fairgoers and effectively teach a
non-agricultural audience of all ages.
Include interviews in videos, if applicable (farmers, judges, vets, etc.).
Still photography slideshows are acceptable in the video format. Not all videos must be live action.
PowerPoint presentations should be effectively illustrated with photos or other images; they should be
graphically interesting; and they should have readable text. Text should be concise. Language should be
non-technical and accessible.
