POWERPOINT PRESENTATION CONTEST<br />

YOUNG ADULTS AGES 14-20<br />

<strong>Spons<strong>or</strong>ed</strong> <strong>by</strong><br />

GENERAL RULES:<br />

<strong>Video</strong>s and <strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentations must be the <strong>or</strong>iginal w<strong>or</strong>k of the contestant(s). Individual<br />

videographers may submit video entries, <strong>or</strong> video teams of up to four members may collab<strong>or</strong>ate. All<br />

<strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentations must be the w<strong>or</strong>k of a single individual. All participants submitting entries<br />

must be between the ages of 14 and 20 years old on August 16, 2012. Multiple submissions are allowed,<br />

but a separate entry f<strong>or</strong>m is required f<strong>or</strong> each submission.<br />

Finalists will be chosen <strong>by</strong> a selection committee consisting of agricultural professionals. The Finalist<br />

videos and <strong>PowerPoint</strong>s will be featured in the DISCOVERY FARM EXHIBITION during the Kentucky<br />

State Fair. They may also be included in other educational locations at the Fair <strong>or</strong> on the Kentucky State<br />

Fair website <strong>or</strong> Facebook pages.<br />

From the Finalists, one video and one <strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentation will be chosen as the GRAND PRIZE<br />

WINNERS. The Grand Prize winners in each medium will receive a $250 scholarship ($250 f<strong>or</strong> video;<br />

$250 f<strong>or</strong> <strong>PowerPoint</strong>). In the case that a video team submits the Grand Prize winner, the prize money<br />

will be evenly distributed among the members of the team.<br />

Judging will be based on creativity, effectiveness of message, factual inf<strong>or</strong>mation, visual appeal,<br />

entertainment value, and interpretive quality (language and concepts accessible to youth and family<br />

audiences).<br />

<strong>Video</strong>s must be between 1 and 5 minutes in length, must have audio, and may use any method to capture<br />

<strong>or</strong> create moving images. <strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentations must have at least 10 and no m<strong>or</strong>e than 30 slides<br />

and should not include sound media. All video and <strong>PowerPoint</strong> entries should begin with a title credit,<br />

including the name(s) of the creat<strong>or</strong>(s).<br />

It is the responsibility of the entrant to comply with state and federal copyright laws.<br />

Entries should exhibit a positive farm message.<br />

The Kentucky State Fair Board holds the right to use the participant names, likeness, city and state of<br />

residence, photos, video, and other images f<strong>or</strong> promotional use without compensation.<br />

All participants are expected to abide <strong>by</strong> the general rules and regulations of the Kentucky State Fair, posted<br />

beginning on page 8 at http://www.kystatefair.<strong>or</strong>g/entries/premiumbook/generalrules.pdf<br />

Discovery Farm is a KSF exhibition located in South Wing B, introduced in 2010. Discovery Farm offers close-up encounters with<br />

cattle, h<strong>or</strong>ses, goats, llamas, sheep, poultry, a sow and her litter, and other farm animals and features learning stations expl<strong>or</strong>ing life<br />

on Kentucky farms. The Discovery Farm <strong>Video</strong> & <strong>PowerPoint</strong> Presentation Contest is promoted through the Kentucky State Fair<br />

Young Adult Project (YAP), an initiative to involve high school and college youth in the Fair.

Offices (Freedom Hall), Kentucky Exposition Center, 937 Phillips Lane, Louisville, KY 40209. Deadline f<strong>or</strong><br />

receipt (not postmark) is July 16, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST. Alternatively, <strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentations may<br />

be emailed to Steph Wilding Darst: sdarst@ksfb.ky.gov. Please follow-up with a phone call to Steph to<br />

Finalists will be notified <strong>by</strong> August 1, 2012, and Grand Prize winners will be notified <strong>by</strong> August 16,<br />

2012.<br />

The Kentucky State Fair Board reserves the right of final decision on any matters pertaining to the KSF<br />

Discovery Farm <strong>Video</strong> Contest not covered <strong>by</strong> the competition rules/eligibility requirements.<br />

These rules are designed to make the event fair f<strong>or</strong> everyone. Failure to comply may lead to<br />

SUBMISSION OF ENTRY FORM IMPLIES AGREEMENT TO ABIDE BY<br />

COMPETITION RULES AS SET FORTH ABOVE.<br />

Be inf<strong>or</strong>mative, accurate, & entertaining. Your product should attract fairgoers and effectively teach a<br />

non-agricultural audience of all ages.<br />

Include interviews in videos, if applicable (farmers, judges, vets, etc.).<br />

Still photography slideshows are acceptable in the video f<strong>or</strong>mat. Not all videos must be live action.<br />

<strong>PowerPoint</strong> presentations should be effectively illustrated with photos <strong>or</strong> other images; they should be<br />

graphically interesting; and they should have readable text. Text should be concise. Language should be<br />

non-technical and accessible.<br />
