Vice President of Leadership Programs, L.A. Area Chamber and
Executive Director, Southern California Leadership Network
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce represents more than 1,600 member businesses in Los
Angeles County. By being the voice of business, helping its members grow, and promoting collaboration,
the LA Area Chamber seeks full prosperity for the Los Angeles region.
The mission of the Southern California Leadership Network (SCLN), an affiliated organization of the
Chamber, is to develop a productive network of exemplary and diverse leaders in the business,
government and community sectors who are capable of addressing the critical challenges facing the
Southern California region. SCLN does this through its signature Leadership Fellowships, continued
leadership development opportunities for alumni and other convenings to promote lifelong leadership
learning and connectivity.
Position
The vice president of leadership programs is the lead staff member of the Southern California Leadership
Network, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This is a salaried exempt position with full
benefits, including paid sick leave, vacation, 401(k) participation, health, vision and dental. The vice
president of leadership programs reports to Chamber Executive Vice President and COO, as SCLN’s
executive director, also is the key staff liaison to the SCLN Board of Directors.
Job Description
Management, Budget and Planning
• Responsible strategic direction of SCLN
• Manages the day-to-day business operations of SCLN
• Plan, monitor and forecast revenue/expense against budget objectives on a monthly and annual basis
Manage SCLN staff in alignment with personnel and organizational goals and objectives
• Conduct performance evaluations, reviews of staff, including staff development plans
• Track progress of SCLN against its business and strategic plans
• Serve as Chamber senior staff team
• Serve as primary liaison with the SCLN Board of Directors
• Negotiate key contracts and partnerships
• Evaluate programs and direct program content that is timely and relevant
• Properly execute SCLN grants, partnerships, contracts or sponsorship agreements
• Develop, and deploy volunteers to serve SCLN, including its Board of Directors
Fundraising and Community Relations
• Lead all SCLN fundraising efforts
• Create and execute development strategies, including board development

• Solicit support from foundations, corporations, individuals and government agencies ranging from
$10,000 to $250,000
• Recruit, interview and enroll participants in SCLN programs
• Lead signature fundraising events to achieve budget goals
• Staff alumni network-building and individual giving campaign
• Cultivate strategic relationships with local, state and national program partners
• Represent SCLN at meetings and events
• Represent SCLN online and in the media
• Facilitate SCLN meetings as necessary
• Expand use of technology to advance SCLN goals
• Build relationships with high-level advisory boards, business and civic leaders that advance SCLN
program content, activities, and sustainability

• Other duties as assigned by the president & CEO or designate
Requirements
• Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred
• Strong understanding of issues and trends shaping the Southern California region and the state
• Experience in fundraising and building strategic partnerships
• Keen understanding of market forces that affect the viability of the organization
• At least 7-10 years’ experience in program management, development, public policy or a related field
• Experience developing and managing budgets
• Experience working with diverse groups of leaders
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage a variety of projects to successful completion
while meeting revenue goals
• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate (internally and externally) in both verbal and written
communications
• Ability to provide excellent customer service and be a team player
• Strong personal and professional references
