<strong>Vice</strong> <strong>President</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Programs</strong>, L.A. <strong>Area</strong> Chamber and<br />

Executive Director, Southern California <strong>Leadership</strong> Network<br />

The Los Angeles <strong>Area</strong> Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce represents more than 1,600 member businesses in Los<br />

Angeles County. By being the voice <strong>of</strong> business, helping its members grow, and promoting collaboration,<br />

the LA <strong>Area</strong> Chamber seeks full prosperity for the Los Angeles region.<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> the Southern California <strong>Leadership</strong> Network (SCLN), an affiliated organization <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Chamber, is to develop a productive network <strong>of</strong> exemplary and diverse leaders in the business,<br />

government and community sectors who are capable <strong>of</strong> addressing the critical challenges facing the<br />

Southern California region. SCLN does this through its signature <strong>Leadership</strong> Fellowships, continued<br />

leadership development opportunities for alumni and other convenings to promote lifelong leadership<br />

learning and connectivity.<br />

Position<br />

The vice president <strong>of</strong> leadership programs is the lead staff member <strong>of</strong> the Southern California <strong>Leadership</strong><br />

Network, a registered 501(c)(3) nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organization. This is a salaried exempt position with full<br />

benefits, including paid sick leave, vacation, 401(k) participation, health, vision and dental. The vice<br />

president <strong>of</strong> leadership programs reports to Chamber Executive <strong>Vice</strong> <strong>President</strong> and COO, as SCLN’s<br />

executive director, also is the key staff liaison to the SCLN Board <strong>of</strong> Directors.<br />

<strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong><br />

Management, Budget and Planning<br />

• Responsible strategic direction <strong>of</strong> SCLN<br />

• Manages the day-to-day business operations <strong>of</strong> SCLN<br />

• Plan, monitor and forecast revenue/expense against budget objectives on a monthly and annual basis<br />

Manage SCLN staff in alignment with personnel and organizational goals and objectives<br />

• Conduct performance evaluations, reviews <strong>of</strong> staff, including staff development plans<br />

• Track progress <strong>of</strong> SCLN against its business and strategic plans<br />

• Serve as Chamber senior staff team<br />

• Serve as primary liaison with the SCLN Board <strong>of</strong> Directors<br />

• Negotiate key contracts and partnerships<br />

• Evaluate programs and direct program content that is timely and relevant<br />

• Properly execute SCLN grants, partnerships, contracts or sponsorship agreements<br />

• Develop, and deploy volunteers to serve SCLN, including its Board <strong>of</strong> Directors<br />

Fundraising and Community Relations<br />

• Lead all SCLN fundraising efforts<br />

• Create and execute development strategies, including board development


• Solicit support from foundations, corporations, individuals and government agencies ranging from<br />

$10,000 to $250,000<br />

• Recruit, interview and enroll participants in SCLN programs<br />

• Lead signature fundraising events to achieve budget goals<br />

• Staff alumni network-building and individual giving campaign<br />

• Cultivate strategic relationships with local, state and national program partners<br />

• Represent SCLN at meetings and events<br />

• Represent SCLN online and in the media<br />

• Facilitate SCLN meetings as necessary<br />

• Expand use <strong>of</strong> technology to advance SCLN goals<br />

• Build relationships with high-level advisory boards, business and civic leaders that advance SCLN<br />

program content, activities, and sustainability<br />

Other<br />

• Other duties as assigned by the president & CEO or designate<br />

Requirements<br />

• Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred<br />

• Strong understanding <strong>of</strong> issues and trends shaping the Southern California region and the state<br />

• Experience in fundraising and building strategic partnerships<br />

• Keen understanding <strong>of</strong> market forces that affect the viability <strong>of</strong> the organization<br />

• At least 7-10 years’ experience in program management, development, public policy or a related field<br />

• Experience developing and managing budgets<br />

• Experience working with diverse groups <strong>of</strong> leaders<br />

• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage a variety <strong>of</strong> projects to successful completion<br />

while meeting revenue goals<br />

• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate (internally and externally) in both verbal and written<br />

communications<br />

• Ability to provide excellent customer service and be a team player<br />

• Strong personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional references<br />
