ECONOMIC TASK FORCE REPORT 2012 15 Seconded by Jean Hill That the Deputy Mayor be included on the Economic Development Committee, to promote economic development at the municipal and county levels. Carried Include mandate and job description for Deputy Mayor Discussions surrounding EDC funding identified the amount of work required by EDC members, conferences, expositions, travel, administration support and honourariums. It is recommended that an initial budget be approved after a staff report be requested to outline costs associated with it. Budget The Economic Development Committee will need an administrative budget and a budget to cover; supplies, marketing and promotional tools, mileage, honourariums, professional development and conferences. The budget can be added to in the future, through requests to Council. The E.D.T.F. will recommend that the E.D.C. have a budget for the above items as a contingency fund. Large expenses such as the purchase of land, for example, would have to be passed through Council. Communication was a discussion area that reoccurred throughout the meetings and tied with it customer service from the municipal offices. Communication Communication is important and a recommendation could be to develop a system to keep up to date on technology, to have information added to the website and to provide an email address to communicate through. Lambton Shores should brand itself as a place to grow for everybody. Lambton Shores needs to have a sustainable economy and community and promote positive growth. There is a strong belief that farmland must be left as farmland. We can’t force development. 56
ECONOMIC TASK FORCE REPORT 2012 16 SURVEY COMPILATION AND TRENDS A full transcript of all survey comments can be made available upon request. Using the structure determined at the September 19 meeting, the survey results for general survey questions 6, 7, and entrepreneurial survey questions14 and 15 were sorted into the following categories: a Recreation b Infrastructure c Social d Services (including tourist services) e Negative (comment not related to question) f Positive (comment not related to question) -- Not Applicable General survey question 8 will also be included in the report, however the answers did not require sorting as the question was simply asking for a definition. General Survey Question 5 Results Question 6 Results Infrastructure and social seem to be the biggest concerns. If you compare the results from question 5 and question 6, they support each other. Question 7 Results The citizens want better services and infrastructure. Overall, they're satisfied with the recreation, and social aspects. The negative comments are centered around some decisions that were made. 57
