Marijuana ranks second in nonalcohol treatment admissions in Chicago, MinneapolislSt. Paul ,<br />

and New Orleans; it ranks third in ~troit and Texas (table 23). Th~ percentage of marijuana<br />

admissions has decreased in Chicago, New Orleans, and Texas since the last reporting periods;<br />

the number of admissions in Chicago, however, has increased.<br />

According to DUF data, marijuana is the second most likely illicit drug used by Chicago<br />

arrestees: 26 percent of all male arrestees tested positive for the drug (May 1991). In<br />

MinneapolislSt.Paul, over 16 percent of arrestees tested positive for THe metabolites (January<br />

through September 1991).<br />

Marijuana arrests in New Orleans decreased from 544 in 1990 to 435 in 1991. In Texas, during<br />

the first half of 1991, 811 adults were arrested for marijuana sales and 9,216 adults were<br />

arrested for possession. Texas, Missouri, and Detroit authorities report large marijuana<br />

seizures.<br />
