This course is the second course of the four course series<br />

required for the Phlebotomy Certificate of Accomplishment. In<br />

this course students demonstrate what has been learned in the<br />

previous phlebotomy course. In a laboratory setting, under the<br />

supervision of the phlebotomist instructor, the student will<br />

demonstrate safe blood withdrawal techniques for vacuum<br />

system, butterfly needle, syringe system, and capillary<br />

puncture. The students will collect samples from each other<br />

and demonstrate safe transport of specimens. Skill mastery will<br />

be assessed through a final practice exam that must be<br />

successfully completed to progress to AH-117D, Phlebotomy<br />

Externship. Students must have their Health Forms completed<br />

to participate in this course. Not applicable to associate degree.<br />

This is the third course in the four course series that meets the<br />

California content standards for eligibility to sit for the<br />

Phlebotomy Technician I certification exam. All four courses<br />

are required to earn the <strong>Ohlone</strong> <strong>College</strong> Phlebotomy<br />

Certificate of Accomplishment. This course builds upon the<br />

content and principles taught in AH-117A, Basic Phlebotomy<br />

Training. This course addresses each standard as outlined in<br />

the California standards and includes preparation for state<br />

certification. Not applicable to associate degree. Repeatable =<br />

Phlebotomy Externship<br />

Prerequisite: AH-117C; must have been taken within one year<br />

This is the fourth of four courses required to earn the<br />

Phlebotomy Certificate of Accomplishment. This is a clinical<br />

course in which students are assigned to experienced<br />

phlebotomists in clinical settings to practice blood collection,<br />

patient interaction, specimen processing, and laboratory<br />

function in health care. Students are mentored as they master<br />

techniques as required by California regulations. Not<br />

applicable to associate degree. Repeatable = 1 time (GR)<br />

Advanced Phlebotomy for Practitioners<br />

Advisory: Phlebotomy work experience within the past five<br />

years as required by California law<br />

This course is open to practicing phlebotomists who by law are<br />

eligible to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician I certification<br />

exam upon successfully completing this course. The content<br />

meets the standards as set forth by California law and the<br />

Department of Health Services. It prepares students to sit for<br />

the certification exam and includes advanced techniques in<br />

blood collection. Not applicable to associate degree.<br />

EKG Interpretation<br />

Units: 1.00<br />

Students are introduced to waveform identification,<br />

measurements, determination of rhythms, determination of<br />

heart rates, and various EKG rhythms and dysrhythms. This<br />

course will also review cardiac anatomy and physiology in<br />

relation to various rhythms. Students will practice interpreting<br />

EKG rhythms. A brief review of anatomy and physiology is<br />
