maintenance of a ceramic studio. Students will gain general<br />

and practical working experience in the acquisition, inst<strong>all</strong>ation,<br />

and use of <strong>all</strong> necessary studio equipment and supplies by<br />

helping to maintain the <strong>Ohlone</strong> ceramic studio. The machinery<br />

includes kilns, wheels, pug mill, slab roller, extruder, slip mixer,<br />

airbrush, spray booth, compressor, glaze materials, and<br />

of wheel-thrown and hand-constructed clay forms. This is a<br />

survey of clay and glaze materials and their ceramic<br />

applications. It includes firing of high temperature and low<br />

temperature stoneware and porcelain clays, including Raku<br />

designing, throwing, glazing, and firing advanced thrown and<br />

hand-built forms. This involves working on some ceramic<br />

projects for weeks at a time. There will be projects involving a<br />

combination of thrown and hand-built forms. This course will<br />

also emphasize appropriate glazes for particular forms.<br />

including: texture, carving, flattening, applied ornament,<br />

Advanced Ceramic Decorating<br />
