she obtained in 1991 the primary doctor in general dentistry title
(M.H. Order no. 320/20.III.1991), in 1996 primary doctor in dentistry
specialty (M.H. Order no. 774/1996), she is doctor in medicine, being
starting with 2005 lecturer at Oro-Dental Diagnosis and Ergonomics, UMFVB Timisoara.

Assoc. Prof. Veronica Argeseanu – Polytechnic University of
Timisoara
Born on 22 nd of July 1953 in Timisoara, graduated the “Traian
Vuia” Polytechnic Institute in 1977. She has a PhD in Engineering
in 1998, with the thesis Mechanisms, Machines Parts, Tribology.
Presently she is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering, Polytechnic University of Timisoara, Department of
Mechatronics. He is a member of professional associations:

Society of Dental Ergonomics (SRED), Romanian Society of
Mechatronics (founding member), Association for Multidisciplinary Research - West

After qualifying from Liverpool in 1980, Paul worked in the
Community Dental Services in Nottingham for two years before
switching to the general practice based on the University
Campus. During his 6 year stay he acquired an MCDH from
Birmingham University and the DDPH from the Royal College.
He subsequently moved to take up a lecturing position at the
Royal London, where he gained his PhD. He moved to Kings
College as a Research Fellow in 1997 and, in 2000 to UCLH as Consultant and
Honorary Senior Lecturer.
During this time he was also awarded both a Fellowship by the Faculty of General Dental
Practice where he currently acts as Course Director for their Dental Leadership and
Management programme and National Research Co-ordinator and by the Faculty of
Dental Surgery.
He has published widely on health issues and is co-author of an undergraduate text
book. His work has included involvement with the Clinical Standards Advisory Group,
„Options for Change‟ and „Workforce Review‟ as well as the National Audit Office and
Office of Fair Trading working parties. He has acted as advisor to a number of
international governments and organisations on developing dental care delivery systems.
He has worked with both the Department of Health and British Dental Association and
held attachments to the Kings Fund. He recently advised the Parliamentary Health
Committee on their inquiry into NHS Dentistry under the new GDS and PDS contracts.

Timisoara
Professor at “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy,
Timisoara, Faculty of Dental Medicine, at Dental Technology
Specialization. Her domain of interests is Removable Partial
Dentures and Complete dentures technology and biomaterials for
their achieving. Her competences are related to dental alloys,
frameworks casting, processing, welding, especially CoCrMo,
design and technology variants used in Removable Partial
Dentures Technology. Dr. Bortun has also competences in
interpreting static analysis using finite elements method and mechanical static and
dynamic resistance evaluation, for Removable Partial Dentures.
Her studies are also focused on four out of five known technologies variants of complete
dentures and resins quality appreciation for elongation, bending, and fatigue tests in
order to Estimate the lifetime - dentures warranty.
The results are directed to diminution of error sources in the dentures technology,
increasing of responsibility and simplification of some long lasting and energy wasting
technologies, through new materials and technologies implementation.
All the tests are realized in a multidisciplinary activity, in collaboration with Polytechnics
University of Timisoara and Polytechnics University of Bucharest.
Her‟s professional and scientific activity comprises: handbooks/textbooks (12); courses

Prof. Dr. Klara Branzaniuc, Targu Mures University
Born at 10 January 1960. She graduated the Faculty of Medicine
from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu Mures. In
2003 she achieved the title of Primary Physician and in this period
Dr. Branzaniuc was involved also in the academic activity. In the
period 2002-2005 she was executive director of the Public Health
Direction Mures. From 2004 Prof. Branzaniuc is Scientific Vice
rector of University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Targu Mures,
President of Scientific Council, Member of the Senate and the
Professors‟ Council of the Faculty of Medicine. From 2006 she is University Professor,
PhD Head of University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Targu Mures, having 12 PhD
Students in guidance, of whom 6 heading in association (cotutelle) with professors from
European Union. In July 2009 she became the manager of the Emergency Institute of
Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation from Targu Mures.
Also she is a member in the permanent Commission of Medical Sciences ARACIS. Prof.
Branzaniuc has a large experience in the domain of research. Manager for one
international project and 3 national project, member in other 7 national projects and 2
international projects. Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Oncology Budapest.

of Alexia, Vic and Pauwel. After many years of professional life in

entry at the Polytechnic School it forked towards medicine and
dentistry. He is bachelor in medicine (UCL 1967), master in dental
sciences (UCL 1969), graduate in complementary studies (KUL
2004). Former in charge of probationers for the KUL, former
resident in charge of teaching with the UCL (fixed prosthodontics),
he followed further trainings in maxillo-facial orthodontics in Leuven,
in hospital management in Brussels, in implantology in Liege and
Bordeaux 2, parodontology in Leuven .
He has his own practice since 1969 in Leuven and Brussels.

parodontology (Mons 1996), Amélogénine (Constanta 2004), Abrasion (Namur 2004),
Dentistry with Minimal Invasion (Brussels 2004 and Constanta 2005), Problems targeted

study on the establishment of the dentists' surgeries in Belgium (School of Public health,

survey in connection with the creation of the occupation of oral hygienists in Belgium
( School of Dentistry, Leuven 2004).
He wrote an analysis of the indices in orthodontics (the Newspaper of the dentist, May
2005) a study on the TMJ (accepted for publication Implantologie Nov. 2005).
Member of many dental trade associations, of which the honourable Pierre Fauchard
Academy, he is since 2003 deputy substitute for the "European Union of the
Practitioners of Dental Medicine" at the Council of Europe.
Permanent representative at the Participative Assembly of the Council of Europe where
he sits since 1980, he is member of the regrouping health and the human right
regrouping.
He is the author of the preliminary draft of additional protocol to the human s rights
(adopted unanimously in March 1993): Right to education.
He took part in the group of study for the teaching of the human s rights in secondary
education (Drobeta Turnu Severin 1995) and in the top for the North-South co-operation
(Tlemcen 2002).

Prof. Dr. Eeva Widstrom – Helsinki, Finland
Professor Eeva Widström - DDS (Ph.D.), MSc (social sciences),
specialist dentist in Clinical Dentistry, currently works as Chief Dental
Officer e.g. the professional adviser to Ministers and Government
departments on all matters concerning dentistry and dental services
at the National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) in Helsinki,
Finland. From autumn 2005 she has an appointment as Professor in
Dental Public Health at the University of Tromso and works part time
in Norway. Her past experience includes clinical work as a dentist, leading positions in
the Public Dental Service, and teaching at various departments at dental schools in
Finland and Sweden – lately also in Norway.
Her research field covers a wide range of themes derived from timely societal needs
including epidemiological studies of the distribution of oral diseases and conditions in
populations, use of dental services and related factors, variations in treatment patterns
and use of dental materials.
Health services research, evaluation of care provision systems and health economics
are important parts of her research.
Lately, she has also been involved with health political and administrative research. She
has been the supervisor of four “dental” PhD theses (in diagnostics, health economics
and health services research) and a number of Master theses also outside dentistry. She
is currently supervising three more PhD students.
She has been the opponent at 16 dissertations and the –pre-examiner or member of
evaluation committee at a further 9 dissertations in the Nordic countries. She has been
used as evaluator of competence at several appointments of professors and grant
applications internationally. She is and has been the board member of four international
scientific dental journals and has and still acts as referee for numerous scientific dental
journals. In addition, she is a frequently invited lecturer on dental matters all over
Europe. Eeva Widström is the past President of the European Association of Dental
Public Health and the Council of European Chief Dental officers.
She has published 80 scientific original articles in international scientific journals and 52
articles in domestic scientific journals and 250 other articles, reports or book chapters
and 130 scientific congress abstracts. In 2004-2008 she had a major research grant from
the Research Academy of Finland and was in charge of a project called "Markets,
incentives and equity in Finnish dental care subject to a major reform."

MPA. Since 1998 he is Director of Dental Health at Ministry of Health of

fluoridation in scientific literature. Member of Editorial board of QI and reviewer for
several scientific journals.He is visiting lecturer in Hebrew University, Tel Aviv University
