work in groups to create and study<br />

the subassemblies: Thymine-Adenine;<br />

Cytosine-Guanine, sugar rings<br />

and phosphate groups which can<br />

then be brought together to make<br />

the finished model – nearly 1m<br />

high (width 30 cm). 15 base pairs<br />

show more than one turn of the<br />

double helix and major and minor<br />

grooves and illustrate the chemical<br />

composition and types of bonding.<br />

The model hangs between two<br />

plates from clear strings and can be<br />

supported by an optional display<br />
