Seventeen children were observed <strong>in</strong>sert<strong>in</strong>g their <strong>f<strong>in</strong>ger</strong>s <strong>in</strong> the open<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong> the ball, (accidentally and<br />
<strong>in</strong>tentionally), 10 <strong>in</strong> the book and 13 <strong>in</strong> the activity panel. The youngest child to <strong>in</strong>sert their <strong>f<strong>in</strong>ger</strong>s was 6<br />
months, the oldest 18 months (number of each age shown <strong>in</strong> table 24). Eight children played with the ball<br />
without <strong>in</strong>sert<strong>in</strong>g their <strong>f<strong>in</strong>ger</strong> and 10 the book and activity panel. Table 25 shows the recorded number of<br />
<strong>in</strong>sertions and observed play with no <strong>in</strong>sertions. In Table 26 the ages of the children are presented<br />
accord<strong>in</strong>g to whether they <strong>in</strong>serted a <strong>f<strong>in</strong>ger</strong>, played but did not <strong>in</strong>sert and did not play.<br />
