PVC tape, SCOTCH 33+ or equivalent is good for wraping over ·se1f-ama1gamating- electrical tape (SCOTCH 23 rubber splicing tape) since amalgamating tape breaks down with UV 1 i ght • Terminal blocks on rotators, Corning silicone grease. MS4. 00 NOT use common RTV sealants • They emit a strong vinegar smell and will corrode electrical connect10ns to nothingness within a year. Dow Corning Si1astic 738 is good for corrosion sensitive connections. Real critical connections could use Dow 3145 Hi-Tech RTV. Wrap first with Scotch 23. then pot w1th Dow 738 for a good joint. Clean all connect10ns f1rst with Dow primer 1200. Rubber surfaces lightly sanded and acetone wiped. Coax-SEAL 1s good for sealing coax1al cable. It goes on 11ke S111y Putty, is easily molded. and can be removed in cool weather. The gl ue from a -heat-gun M will seal coax connections. GOOP by E1ectic Products seems to work well as a sealer of coax cable. Its found in many stores in the glue department. It repa1rs almost everything. Heat shrink tubing sometimes works well - also in combination with other methods. And don't forget to wrap the connection with electrical tapeeven if you use the above methods. Some people ·layer- glue and electrical tape. Remember that water in your coax is death to your s1gnal going out and coming in to your radio. Put -drip· loops in your coax where needed. Any more ideas on sealing coax connectors from the weather? - BK One of the most frustrating things about the using of handitalkies is that the battery that comes with the unit only last for several hours. It is suggested that you can extend the usefu11ness of your HT in everyday use and during emergenci es by: 1) Using a 12vDC car plug 2) Buying several empty battery cases that hold 6-8 nicads 3) Using low power when possible 4) Using the HT -battery saver 5) Use a plug-in 2-10AHr battery 6) NEVER turning the HT on I buy all my nicads from PRICE CLUB and use their CC-8 charger. Buy one more set of 6 cells than you have cases so that you can immediately replace the used cells with freshly charged cells. Our family has four HTs and each HT has its original battery case plus two 6-ce11 cases plus 6 extra cells for a total of four uses. Our charger is always busyl Store your charged cells in the refrigerator to cut down on the cells self-discharging lilday.
