Subject: BBS Tape Backup OK and
other things
I ran a tape backup this evening. All
appears OK. Normal in every way
except that it ran about 3X faster than
before. Lots ofnames and messages on
the system so I guess that all is well
with the world.
Deleted some more obsolete files after
making the backup.
PALBBS BATIERIES:
The analog meter was not accurate
enough to read the voltage on the batteries.
I used a digital meter this evening
and measured 13.4 volts charge on the
two parallel radio batteries (100 AHr
each). That should be good charging
voltage and give the batteries a very
long live, rather than charging them at
13.8 or higher voltage. The 6.5 amp
current limited regulated voltage
charger cooled down after a while. I
guess that there was a poor connection
that ] need to tighten up. ] am currently
using oversized alligator clips and I
should change them for tenninallugs.
The 72 volt power batteries seem to
be failing. They are the 38 AHr 12 volt
cells (6 ofthem) and we had some UPS
failures during boot cycles today. I
would suggest that we keep our eyes
open for some more medium sized
batteries that would be suitable to
make up about 72 volts at about 40
ABrs (or larger). Preferably all about
the same age (new would be best) and
the same model and manufacturer. John
Field Day 2000
It is never to soon to start thinking
Field Day.
Imagine: before you realize what is
happening, these cold and blustery days
will be gone, summer will be upon us,
and it will be time for that most important
of all Ham Radio events: FIELD
DAY.
Axe you prepared for emergency radio
operations? Axe you ready to Feb 5 Maine 080 Party
Feb 5 New Hampshire QSO Party
launch into the wilderness (more or less) Feb 5 Delaware QSO Party
Feb 6 North
and operate "au-natural"?
American Sprint - CW
Feb 6 Freeze Your Buns OffQRP
Well, field day is just around the
Field Day, 80-10 Mtr - CW &:. SSB
comer (last full weekend in June!). Note the four RARE states QSO
Remember: Field Day is one occasion
in hamdom where station opera
WAS. This list is not all inclusive as
parties. A good chance to work on
tions give everyone a chance to "work there are other minor contests on during
all the bands".
the period. See QST, CQ, World Radio
If you are new to the ham radio and the National Contest Journal for
hobby, FIELD DAY is the event where contest roles. GL in the contest! 73,
you can really get a chance to operate in Harry, W6YOO
all modes, and enjoy the ultimate benefits
ofoperating the bands.
P ARC needs some help this year.
We need band managers and we need an
overall Field Day Manager. The Club
has enjoyed a string of very successful
Field Day events. Now, the time has
arrived to pass the baton of event management.
The task is NOT OVERWHELM
ING. The tradition established by the
club is well "oiled", and what we need is
someone willing to serve as the rallying
point to keep tabs on the details of field
day preparation.
So, whether you are a seasoned veteran,
or a new ham getting into the
hobby, please plan your calendar to
have fim operating the "granddaddy of
Ham Events"
Stay tuned to the plans for Field
Day.
Trying to think up a response and send
