June 9tb: Great day at the repeater<br />

site!<br />

OE8S0QHelmut, KG6BOPJay, and<br />

KF6NKCDon spent most of the day on<br />

the 80ft tower removing unused runs of<br />

heliax and coax in preparation to clear<br />

the way to running the newly boughten<br />

heliax up to the antennas.<br />

Don disconnected several runs from<br />

antennas and connect new heliax to the<br />

146.7- packet repeater antenna while<br />

Helmut and Jay helped lower several<br />

tubes with heliax and coax.<br />

In all, it appears they removed about<br />

8 runs offeedline.<br />

They were assisted by<br />

WB6DA. J'Dave, and KE6ZLYGlenn.<br />

WB6IQSJohn supervised the removal<br />

of all packet units (3) from the block<br />

building and installing them in the new<br />

sunken building. He was assisted by<br />

W6GNIAI,<br />

KC6YSODavid,<br />

KF6BFIfed, and W6EYPWarren.<br />

WB6IQS unfortunately ended up almost<br />

slicing off the end of his fmger as<br />

he was finishing installing the packet<br />

equipment.<br />

Gloria (xyl ZL y), Mencbie (amiga<br />

BFI) and Rosie (xyl SOQ) hauled water<br />

to the small trees .. gallon after gallon!<br />

The group was especially great because<br />

besides helping in areas mentioned,<br />

they were always willing to lend a helping<br />

had to other groups needing help.<br />

W9FQNStan ended up hauling off<br />

the mountain a 40ft crankup tower which<br />

possibly will be used with the club's<br />

amateur radio station.<br />

Stan and Dave visited the Observatory<br />

to deliver several items to<br />

AB6Q1Mike who is recovering from his<br />

operation nicely.<br />

P.S. The two oldest helpers had an<br />

average age of77!<br />

Patch instructions are only handed<br />

out under the following conditions:<br />

envelope (SASE).<br />

PIN numbers which allow you to<br />

access the autopatch and BOX numbers<br />

are obtained the same way.<br />

PIN number?<br />

If you want to use the club's autopatch<br />

system, you will need a PIN<br />

number!<br />

An easy way to get a PIN number is<br />

to send to W9FQNl@Juno.com (note<br />

the one after the N -Ed).<br />

Also include in your e-mail your<br />

complete name, call, home phone and<br />

up to four often used phone numbers<br />

and who they are listed to (brother,<br />

daughter, family friend, etc). Make sure<br />

you include AREA codes with all phone<br />

numbers. The phone numbers will be<br />

put in BOXes 1, 2, 3, and 4 so list the<br />

phone numbers in the proper BOXes.<br />

BOXes are given out by mail.<br />

SB 1714 Help!<br />

There is a bill now in Committee in the<br />

California Legislature SB 1714 which at<br />

first was an attempt to have PRS-I limited<br />

federal preemption codified in the California<br />

Government Code. A well organized<br />

opposition has stripped the language which<br />

would have precluded a city of County<br />

zoning regulation form regulating ham radio<br />

antenna below 75 feet.<br />

Those opposing the bill are well organized,<br />

It is critical to the eventual passage<br />

ofa ham radio friendly statute for the voice<br />

of all amateur radio operators, and their<br />

supporters, such as those agencies and<br />

groups which benefit ad support amateur<br />

emergency communications to write, E­<br />

mail and call their Assemblyperson to support<br />

the passage ofSB 1714.<br />

There are at least two ways to find out<br />

who your assemblymember and what there<br />

address is:<br />

I. Look in the government pages of<br />

your local telephone book. There you will<br />

find the local office of the assemblymember.<br />

Call the local office, and ask for the<br />

assemblymember's Sacramento office ad~<br />

dress.<br />

2. Look at the web page http://<br />

www.assembly.ca.gov. and follow the<br />

"Find My District" link: on the left<br />

side of the page. It will ask you for your<br />

street address, and return the name and<br />

contact information for your assemblymember.<br />

Brad Wyatt, retired ARRL Pacific Divi­<br />

~n Director, wrote a letter to his assembl,member<br />

and the Local<br />

g~vernment Committee, which ARRL Volunteer<br />

Counsel K6HS has modified<br />

slightly to make "generic" and which<br />

is a good example ofwhat you might say to<br />

your assemblymember. In writing your<br />

letter, put it in your own words to the<br />

extent possible. Otherwise, use parts of it<br />

or just copy it.<br />
