June 9tb: Great day at the repeater
site!
OE8S0QHelmut, KG6BOPJay, and
KF6NKCDon spent most of the day on
the 80ft tower removing unused runs of
heliax and coax in preparation to clear
the way to running the newly boughten
heliax up to the antennas.
Don disconnected several runs from
antennas and connect new heliax to the
146.7- packet repeater antenna while
Helmut and Jay helped lower several
tubes with heliax and coax.
In all, it appears they removed about
8 runs offeedline.
They were assisted by
WB6DA. J'Dave, and KE6ZLYGlenn.
WB6IQSJohn supervised the removal
of all packet units (3) from the block
building and installing them in the new
sunken building. He was assisted by
W6GNIAI,
KC6YSODavid,
KF6BFIfed, and W6EYPWarren.
WB6IQS unfortunately ended up almost
slicing off the end of his fmger as
he was finishing installing the packet
equipment.
Gloria (xyl ZL y), Mencbie (amiga
BFI) and Rosie (xyl SOQ) hauled water
to the small trees .. gallon after gallon!
The group was especially great because
besides helping in areas mentioned,
they were always willing to lend a helping
had to other groups needing help.
W9FQNStan ended up hauling off
the mountain a 40ft crankup tower which
possibly will be used with the club's
amateur radio station.
Stan and Dave visited the Observatory
to deliver several items to
AB6Q1Mike who is recovering from his
operation nicely.
P.S. The two oldest helpers had an
average age of77!
Patch Information
Patch instructions are only handed
out under the following conditions:
~
1. Bye-mail (W9FQNl@Juno.com
2. In person at club meetings
3. When you provide a self-addressedstamped
envelope (SASE).
PIN numbers which allow you to
access the autopatch and BOX numbers
are obtained the same way.
PIN number?
If you want to use the club's autopatch
system, you will need a PIN
number!
An easy way to get a PIN number is
to send to W9FQNl@Juno.com (note
the one after the N -Ed).
Also include in your e-mail your
complete name, call, home phone and
up to four often used phone numbers
and who they are listed to (brother,
daughter, family friend, etc). Make sure
you include AREA codes with all phone
numbers. The phone numbers will be
put in BOXes 1, 2, 3, and 4 so list the
phone numbers in the proper BOXes.
If you don't have e-mail, contact
W9FQN at club meetings. No PINs or
BOXes are given out by mail.
SB 1714 Help!
There is a bill now in Committee in the
California Legislature SB 1714 which at
first was an attempt to have PRS-I limited
federal preemption codified in the California
Government Code. A well organized
opposition has stripped the language which
would have precluded a city of County
zoning regulation form regulating ham radio
antenna below 75 feet.
Those opposing the bill are well organized,
It is critical to the eventual passage
ofa ham radio friendly statute for the voice
of all amateur radio operators, and their
supporters, such as those agencies and
groups which benefit ad support amateur
emergency communications to write, E
mail and call their Assemblyperson to support
the passage ofSB 1714.
There are at least two ways to find out
who your assemblymember and what there
address is:
I. Look in the government pages of
your local telephone book. There you will
find the local office of the assemblymember.
Call the local office, and ask for the
assemblymember's Sacramento office ad~
dress.
2. Look at the web page http://
www.assembly.ca.gov. and follow the
"Find My District" link: on the left
side of the page. It will ask you for your
street address, and return the name and
contact information for your assemblymember.
Brad Wyatt, retired ARRL Pacific Divi
~n Director, wrote a letter to his assembl, member
and the Local
g~vernment Committee, which ARRL Volunteer
Counsel K6HS has modified
slightly to make "generic" and which
is a good example ofwhat you might say to
your assemblymember. In writing your
letter, put it in your own words to the
extent possible. Otherwise, use parts of it
or just copy it.
Be sure to send a copy of your letter to
the:
Assembly Local Government Committee
1020 N Street, Room 157
Sacramento, CA 95814.
Here is the letter:
