and the separation wars that shook the entire region have left a deep mark on<br />

the EU and one might say the ongoing reforms the EU is going through are due<br />

to the 1990s events. Given the geographic proximity of the Balkans, and the<br />

EU's declared aim to create in the Balkans as well as in the Southeast and<br />

Middle East region a situation in which military conflict will become unthinkable,<br />

the EU got deeply involved in both political and economic diplomacy in the<br />

whole neighborhood stabilization process. From conflict resolution to political<br />

and economic diplomacy, and from the genuine human rights and prevention<br />

diplomacy, the EU has put at stake all of its diplomatic action assets towards<br />

the enlarged <strong>Europe</strong>an Union and its CFSP consolidation.<br />
