The Critical Section Problem (2)
• We must develop some kind of a synchronization mechanism.
◾Before the critical region, a sequence of setup statements called a
preprotocol.
◾After the critical region, a sequence of teardown statements called
a postprotocol.
• Our task is to develop pre- and postprotocols to ensure mutual
exclusion from critical region execution, i.e.
◾We must ensure that statements from the critical regions of
processes are not interleaved.
