The Old Hall Manuscript *

From St. Edmund‘s College, Ware. The oldest and most important English music manuscript to have survived dating
from the mid-15 th century and consisting of a collection of parts of the Ordinary of the Mass to which certain hymns
and motets were added. Covering the period of transition from the old conductus to the new polyphonic style,
compositions range from the reign of Edward III to that of Henry VI and include the only genuine example of a work
left by John Dunstable in his own country, the motet Veni, Sancte Spiritus (folio 55b).
