1200 - 1300<br />
Matthew Paris lived from around 1200 to around 1259 and was a monk at the great Benedictine Abbey of St Albans.<br />
His chronicle provides the basic source of contemporary information in the reign of King Henry III. The volume and<br />
scope of his work, with its detailed account of contemporary happenings, his lively, vivid narrative, his personal<br />
prejudices and partisan judgments and his love of gossip make his writings stimulating and attractive. The<br />
manuscripts are decorated with his detailed and carefully colored drawings depicting moments of drama and action.<br />
Ms. 26 covers the history of the world from the Creation to 1188 and Ms. 16 continues the story up to 1253.<br />

These volumes consist of a chronological compilation of documents collected by Rinuccini, Archbishop of Fermo and<br />
Nuncio sent by Pope Innocent X in 1645 to the Catholics in Ireland. Known as the Nuncio‘s Memoirs, they contain<br />
civil and political as well as ecclesiastical records and bring to light many secret affairs of the Catholics in the period<br />
leading up to the war of 1641.<br />
