This weekend we are pleased to have with us Father Bill Donnelly who is with the Maryknoll
Missionaries and will be talking about the work of the Maryknolls and the Maryknoll magazine.
Our Gospel talks to us about the miracle of Jesus feeding the thousands with five barley loaves and
a couple of small fish. What Jesus had to work with were the size of pita pockets and sardines. This
is the desert and people had to carry their lunch in a small pouch attached to their belts. With a little
Jesus did much. Imagine what He could do with each of us if we would open ourselves up to Him
just a little. That can be frightening but at the same time can make us better people who live the
Gospel more effectively.
July 29 is the feast of St. Martha, the sister of Mary and Lazarus. She wanted to be the perfect
hostess for Jesus and to make sure the house and meal were just so. She criticized her sister Mary
for just sitting with Jesus and not helping with the meal preparation and setting the table. Yet Mary
was also trying to be the perfect hostess. She wanted Jesus to know that someone cared enough to
just sit and listen to Him. In the end that is just what Jesus told Martha. Jesus was happy that
Martha wanted things just right but He wanted her to sit and visit with Him also. If Jesus were to
come to our house today would we be busy about cleaning the house and making the perfect meal
or would we want to tidy up and then just sit and listen?

Wilma Mitchell.. May their souls and the souls of
all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
Stewardship Reflection
“This is my commandment: love one
another as I love you. No one has
greater love than this, to lay down one’s
life for one’s friends.” John 15:12-13
Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your
friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we should be
willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not
because we want praise and glory, but simply
because we love Him.
Eucharistic Adoration
The church and the world have a great need
for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in
this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the
time to go to meet him in adoration, in
contemplation full of faith, and open to
making amends for the serious offences and
crimes of the world. Let our adoration never
cease.

church. We are so blessed to have an Adoration
Chapel at St. Rose and we want to thank
everyone who so faithfully keep their
commitment hour each week, and also our
substitutes who so willingly fill in when needed.

Anointing
On the First Saturday of each month, we will
have the Anointing of the Sick at the 8:30AM
Mass. This anointing is administered to all who
feel they are in need of special healing because
of aging, an upcoming surgery, mental anguish
or because of any physical illness that one may
have.
Please contact Sister Emily if you are
aware of someone who has recently been
admitted to the hospital, moved to a nursing
home or has become unable to attend Mass
and would like Communion brought to them at
home. Call her at the parish office, 837-3410.

Prayer For Religious Liberty
We are being asked to offer special prayers and
choose a day of the week to fast for the
preservation of our religious liberty. There are
prayer cards at the entrances to Church. Please
take one and pray it daily. Archbishop Carlson
recites this prayer each day at 3:00PM on
Covenant Radio. We are being asked to pray
this Prayer for Religious Liberty daily until the
Solemnity of Christ the King on November 25 th .
The June 22 nd edition of the St. Louis Review is
a special edition about Religious Liberty. Please
take time to read this and become more
informed.
Widows or Widowers
Attention Seniors! Please join us for a WOW’s
meeting. We meet at 1:00pm in the parish hall
on the fourth Tuesday of the month. There is a
brief meeting followed by a social and

A Big Thank You
The St. Rose Relay for Life team “Roses
Gone Wild” would like to thank all of you for
your support again this year, in our fight
against cancer. The Relay for Life is next
Friday night, August 3rd at Hazelwood
Central High School.
We would like to invite you all to come out
and experience the night at this wonderful
event. It starts at 6 PM with the cancer
survivor lap and then the walking starts by
all. The luminaria lighting takes place at dusk
and is a beautiful sight. Some walk a lap
with us and look at the over 100 luminarias
our team sold. We have many reasons we do
this walk and those shining lights remind us
with each lap we do.
There are plenty of booths to visit with
raffles, games and food. Our booth will be
selling our famous root beer floats as well as
cotton candy and peanuts. We will have
balloon art for the kids as well as face
painting and a game. We hope to see you
there. And please pray for cooler weather.
Quilt of the Month
Marge Inlow was the winner of the July quilt.
She won the quilt that the quilters entered in the
contest at the Bridge. In case you didn’t hear,
our quilters won the contest.
Divine Mercy Cenacle
Come join us to pray the rosary, chaplet, and
study St. Faustina’s Diary each 2 nd and 4 th
Friday of the month in room #1 at 9:30AM.
Seniors Club
If you know of a St. Rose Club member who is
sick or in the hospital, please call Mary
Schwarzbauer, 838-9024.
We are scheduling a river boat trip on the
Spirit of Peoria Paddlewheel on Tuesday,
September 25 th . Buses will leave the Eagan
Center at 2:30PM, and return around 8:30PM.
We will have a late lunch at the Grafton Winery,
consisting of half a sandwich (Ham, turkey or
chicken salad) and a bowl of potato soup or a
salad, plus beverage. Since our senior meeting
is only a week prior to the trip, we must take
reservations earlier. Cost of the trip is $35.00
(residents) which includes the boat trip, lunch,
and the bus. Those going to the August 6 th ball
game can make their reservation and payment
that night. Others wanting to go on the trip
please call Bill and Jan @838-3838 for
reservations prior to August 24 th .
St. Patrick Center Needs
Backpacks!
This year we are once again asking the St.
Louis community to support our
“Back-To-School” backpack giveaway
program to help needy
children prepare for the coming
school year. Participating
individuals and families are asked to
donate a backpack filled with school supplies for
one of four different age groups of students.
Please take one of the “Backpack Tags” on
display, in church or in the parish office, in the
coming days. Each tag lists the supplies needed
for one backpack for one child. Parish families
are encouraged to “adopt” one child (or more!)
and shop for this child as a family. When you’ve
completed your school supply shopping simply
tie the tag on to your backpack and bring it back
to church. If you are unable to buy a backpack
and all the supplies needed, consider just
buying general school supplies or an empty
backpack to donate. Please return finished
backpacks and supplies by July 30th. For more

From the School Principal’s Desk…
As students and teachers enjoy their summer break, and the school office finishes up some welldeserved
time off, it’s just about time to begin the Back-to-School planning.
The phone has been ringing throughout the spring and summer with interest in our school. We are
delighted to welcome 28 new families (and counting) to our school this year! And, more good news,
we have 39 Kindergarten students enrolled – a new record for St. Rose Philippine Duchesne School.
Our preschool program is filling fast as well. All this is a sign that our school is quite healthy, and it’s
good news for the parish, too!
Both Preschool and Kindergarten have two classrooms open, with some seats still available, so if
you know of a young family in your neighborhood who may be interested, please have them
contact the school office (921-3023) for a registration packet. You can also refer people to visit
us online at www.comeshinewithus.com.
Here are a few dates to remember:
There will be a Used School Uniform Sale on Sunday, July 29 th in the school cafeteria,
Noon to 3:00 p.m. – stop by and save on jumpers, skirts, uniform pants and shirts.
Orientation Night for preschool, kindergarten and all new families is set for Wednesday,
August 8 th at 7pm in the school cafeteria.
The Back to School Open House is scheduled for Sunday, August 12 th – 10am to Noon – all
parishioners are welcome to stop by after Mass that weekend and see our “Shining Star”
school all ready for a new academic year.
The FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is Wednesday, August 15 th - Noon Dismissal (Full Days begin
Thursday, August 16 th )
School Board Meeting – Tuesday, August 21 st at 7pm in the Faculty Lounge. We welcome
new members Beth Broeckling and Buddy Mosher, and renewing member Pam Huff, who will
each serve a three-year term.
As always, on behalf of the teachers, staff, students and families at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne
School, THANK YOU to all parishioners who generously give time, talent and treasure to our parish
school. Your prayers and support are vital to the success of our school as a ministry of this parish.

The Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is inviting everyone to open
your hearts and doors for home visitations of the
statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The statue will be
available in your home for nine(9) consecutive
days for grace and peace to all families in the
world. By having our Blessed Mother and your
fervent prayers saying the holy rosary, you are
helping us in our door to door evangelization of
building up the kingdom of God in our parish
and neighboring parishes.
There have been 133 homes visited since

Protecting Our Children
July 29, 2012
All volunteers and employees who work with
children at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne parish
must be in full compliance with the Safe
Environment Program. This includes attending a
Protecting God’s Children workshop,
undergoing a background check updated in
even-numbered years, having an FBI fingerprint
check if you have lived outside of Missouri
within the past five years, and signing the Code
of Ethical Conduct.
These requirements are mandated by the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
and are followed by every diocese in the
country. The policies are the Church’s attempt
to ensure the suitability of all adults who work or
volunteer around your children. If you have any
questions about your compliance please contact

St. Patrick’s Casserole
Cooks Needed!
Over the past year the number of Casseroles
our parish community prepared for the poor and
homeless has dropped about 25%!! If you
would like to help in this very worthwhile effort,
casserole recipes, pans & covers are available
in the ushers closet near the main church doors.
They are collected the 2 nd Monday each month
on the upper parking lot near door #1, from
7:30-9:30AM. Call Mary & Bob, 921-07836 or
Fran & Vic 741-0924 if you have questions.
We are asking parishioners to please consider
using our new online giving program as a
means to make contributions to the parish. Go

to the stewardship tab, click the On-Line Giving
logo, Log-in, Select “Give new gift”, select
General fund or another fund, enter a dollar
amount and date to be withdrawn, click “next
