The Board’s mission to provide quality

which enable students to maximize their
potential and fulfill their aspirations
was captured in the slogan Rainbow
Schools Reaching minds. Touching
hearts. The slogan provided a consistent
and cohesive message, aligning corporate
communications with the Board’s vision,
mission, values and priorities.
Back to school publication
for parents/guardians
Students in
Rainbow Schools
in Sudbury,
Espanola and
Manitoulin
received the
inaugural issue
of “Rainbow
Schools” in
September 2005.
This back to school publication featured
general information about programs and
policies as well as information about
School Councils and opportunities to
volunteer. It also included a directory
of schools and a calendar of school
holidays, professional activity days, and
secondary school examination days.
Rainbow Schools and You
Rainbow District School Board launched
Rainbow Schools and You, a new electronic
newsletter celebrating staff and students.
The publication provided a progress
report on the
Board’s priorities in all areas, including
student success, character education,
literacy and numeracy, professional
learning, investments in education,
and community involvement.
Student Success Initiative
A newspaper supplement “Rainbow
Schools: Success for All Students” was
produced by the Rainbow District
School Board
in partnership
with Northern
Life and
distributed
in Sudbury,
Espanola and
Manitoulin
in January
2005. The
supplement was a key component of the
Ministry of Education’s Student Success
Initiative to encourage students to stay
in school. School boards are required to
communicate important information
about literacy, numeracy and program
pathways to the community at large.
Rainbow Schools
in the news
Rainbow District School Board
welcomed media coverage of Board and
school related activities. News releases
and media advisories were issued to
newspaper, radio, television and internet
outlets in Sudbury, Espanola and
Manitoulin. This generated significant
stories and photos in both print and
electronic media, bringing the story of
public education to our communities.
The public is well informed about what’s
happening in Rainbow Schools and in
education in general through
consistent, accurate and
relevant communications.
Welcome to
Rainbow Schools
Elementary schools hosted Open Houses
for parents/guardians and children.
Information packages were distributed,
including a brochure/poster focused on
the theme “Explore. Learn. Grow.”
Rainbow District School Board’s
Kindergarten Programs, in English and
French Immersion, are based on sound
principles of early childhood education
with a strong focus on character
education. Intellectual stimulation,
moral values, physical development,
social/emotional development and
self-discipline are emphasized on a
daily basis.
Rainbow District School Board’s
secondary schools hosted Information
Sessions and Open Houses to help
students make the transition from
elementary school to secondary school.
All grade 8 students and their parents/
guardians were invited to participate.
Rainbow District School Board’s
secondary schools offer exceptional
opportunities in arts, athletics and
academics in English and French
Immersion for all pathways – work,
independent living, apprenticeship,
college and university. Caring teachers,
quality programs and access to state-ofthe-art
technology prepare young minds
to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Employee
recognition
The Board
recognized
the significant
contribution
of employees
in Rainbow
Schools at two
important
events – the
2005 Awards Ceremony and the
2005 Retirement Dinner. The strength
of Rainbow Schools is its people, those
who make it happen every day in the
classroom, hallways, offices and playing
fields throughout the district.
