BEDWAYS
THURSDAY 7 OCTOBER AT 10:45PM
Nina, a film director, and her two actors move into a large old
apartment in a run-down area of Berlin. About to start shooting a
movie on the physical side of love, she begins in-depth rehearsals
with her actors, hoping to explore and develop the story she
wants to tell.
Set against the cold winter outside, the real-sex test rehearsals
in front of the warm studio lights become hypnotic meditations
in themselves. Sparsely shot, the physical drama and tension
between actors resonates through the corridors of their
dilapidated apartment.
As Nina continues searching for the essence of her film, the
acted and the genuine relationships begin to merge. Between the
actors, Hans and Marie, there is a chemistry which starts in front
of the camera and slowly permeates through to their real lives as
they watch back rushes on a projector. Bedways is an exploration
into the psychological effects on relationships when two people
are made to act out real sex. It gives a cool, restrained portrayal
of bohemian life in Berlin. A low budget erotic meditation, this film
is set apart by its unique attitude and quirkiness. JK
