MIKE THOMPSON APPOINTED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER<br />

providing a wide variety of services to all members of our community,” said<br />

Randy Lowe, Chairman of the Board. Thompson has 18 years of nonprofit<br />

leadership experience and is a skilled executive who has successfully guided<br />

several organizations. He served as the COO and Acting President of GLAAD<br />

and the Executive Director of Equality Utah. While at Equality Utah, he led<br />

the nationally recognized “Common Ground Initiative” that was launched<br />

to advocate for Fair Housing & Employment, Health Care, Inheritance, and<br />

Relationship Recognition.<br />

The Board of the LGBT Community Center of the Desert<br />

(The Center) has appointed Mike Thompson of Salt Lake City<br />

as its new Executive Director, beginning June 2nd.<br />

Thompson arrives with a wealth of talent and experience as The Center<br />

is poised for growth. A mission-oriented leader, he is committed to The<br />

Center’s mission of enriching the lives of the Desert’s lesbian, gay, bisexual<br />

and transgender community.<br />

In addition to his other work, Thompson has built a very successful<br />

consulting practice, and is currently working with CenterLink, the network<br />

of LGBT community centers across the nation, to develop mission-focused<br />

governance curriculum for boards of directors.<br />

Mike has a strong commitment to social justice and is looking forward to<br />

growing The Center to be a nationally-recognized organization serving all of<br />

the needs of the LGBT community, its friends, and supporters.<br />

“Mike brings tremendous talent to The Center, and the Board is looking<br />

forward to his leadership where there is huge potential for growth in the<br />

Coachella Valley to establish a premier LGBT center that will be widely<br />

recognized for its mission and services,” continued Lowe.<br />
