MIKE THOMPSON APPOINTED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER

Randy Lowe, Chairman of the Board. Thompson has 18 years of nonprofit
leadership experience and is a skilled executive who has successfully guided
several organizations. He served as the COO and Acting President of GLAAD
and the Executive Director of Equality Utah. While at Equality Utah, he led
the nationally recognized “Common Ground Initiative” that was launched
to advocate for Fair Housing & Employment, Health Care, Inheritance, and
Relationship Recognition.
The Board of the LGBT Community Center of the Desert
(The Center) has appointed Mike Thompson of Salt Lake City
as its new Executive Director, beginning June 2nd.
Thompson arrives with a wealth of talent and experience as The Center
is poised for growth. A mission-oriented leader, he is committed to The
Center’s mission of enriching the lives of the Desert’s lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender community.
In addition to his other work, Thompson has built a very successful
consulting practice, and is currently working with CenterLink, the network
of LGBT community centers across the nation, to develop mission-focused
governance curriculum for boards of directors.
Mike has a strong commitment to social justice and is looking forward to
growing The Center to be a nationally-recognized organization serving all of
the needs of the LGBT community, its friends, and supporters.
“Mike brings tremendous talent to The Center, and the Board is looking
forward to his leadership where there is huge potential for growth in the
Coachella Valley to establish a premier LGBT center that will be widely
recognized for its mission and services,” continued Lowe.
