Hiking With
Ramon

friend Ramon is visiting
for a few days. Having
hiked successfully through
challenging terrain in the
past, we are posed for new
adventures.
“The weather is really mild.
How do you feel about a hike
today?” Ramon asks.
“Sure, which canyon do you
feel like hiking?”
RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIF. – Las Casuelas Nuevas has received a

consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor,

most recent reviews. Additional criteria include a business’ tenure
and popularity ranking on the site.

ABoUT LAS CASUELAS NUEVAS
When Las Casuelas Nuevas opened in April, 1973, the beautiful
hacienda style restaurant was a fruition of the Florencio Delgado
family’s dream. The architecture and decor by Arthur Valdez was
based on one of Mexico City’s most beautiful restaurants, a beloved
place that the Delgado family often visited. The magnificent treeshaded
garden patio was added in 1983, designed by Raul Sosa.

“I’ve always dreamed of going there but some people thought it would be
too hard for me as a blind person.”
“Nonsense! You can go anywhere Michael!.”
“You’re right, Ramon, we work well as a unit!”
In less than a ten minute drive we’re parking the car. Our backpacks
supplied with plenty of water and energy bars, I take Ramon’s strong hand.
The first part of the hike is desert sand.
“A hundred more yards and we’ll enter a very magical Oasis,” Ramon says.
Suddenly I sense a great deal of shade and the sun is gone. A crow
welcomes us into this wonderland.
“The shade is caused by a thick canopy of Palm Trees,” Ramon explains.
He takes my hand and grips it harder. We’ll have to tread carefully.” He
adds, “There are many charred and felled trees here, deposited by flash
floods. The trees are from the fires last summer.”
“Wow!” I say amazed. It sounds catastrophic.”
“It’s nature recycling nutrients through the ecosystem. Watch your step.”
With my cane in one hand tightens his grip on my other hand and helps me
jump over a small stream. His strong arm makes it all feel effortless.
“I can hear the roar of the waterfall, Ramon!”
“There’s a cave behind the waterfall. Do you want to explore it?” he asks.
“Absolutely!” I proclaim.
Undeterred, we arrive at the waterfall. Another dream realized!
Now owned and operated by son and daughter-in-law Joaquin
and Sharon Delgado, the restaurant’s uniquely decorated dining
areas and the grand garden patio are available for weddings, family
celebrations, business and social events, and grand fiestas, seating
up to 450.
Authentic dishes from all over Mexico, the menu incorporates
the Delgado family recipes originating in Mazatlán, and from
Chihuahua, Guadalajara, Mexico City, as well as Argentina, and
South America. Specialties include crab enchiladas, pollo en mole
and spicy pork fajitas.
From the warm, gracious Mexican hacienda atmosphere, to
delicious, authentic dishes from all over Mexico, and lively mariachi
music on weekends in the garden patio, Las Casuelas Nuevas
certainly lives up to its motto: The Spirit of Mexico in the Heart of
Rancho Mirage.
