Paid time off for study or training
If you are 16 or 17 and currently working, you may be able to get
some paid time off from work to study if you are not yet qualified to
level 2. The types of qualifications you could study for include
GCSEs, vocational GCSEs, NVQs and BTECs. They are taught at
local colleges, by distance learning, or in the workplace. Contact
your local Careers Wales service for more information.
4. Training and apprenticeship options
There are a number of training programmes available in Wales to
help you get into a specific job or improve your job skills if you are
already working. Most involve work-based learning or placements,
as well as support from training providers. Some are aimed at
specific age groups, while others are open to anyone.
Depending on the type of programme, you might get paid as you
are working. Sometimes you can study for a qualification at the
same time. This may involve spending part of your time at college.

(a) Apprenticeships
These are work-based training programmes for young people.
They give you the opportunity to be employed within your chosen
industry while learning the skills you need through a combination of
work-based and college learning.
