• Key Skills qualifications
Key Skills are the skills that are commonly needed in everyday
life, for education, training, and work. Anyone can take the
qualifications and you can study them alongside other
qualifications. There are six different subjects:
- Communication
- Application of Numbers
- Information and Communication Technology
- Working with Others
- Improving Own Learning and Performance
- Problem Solving.
Key Skills qualifications can be useful for moving on to further
study or employment, and they also give you university entry
points. UCAS, the university applications service, have a Tariff
system that gives points to different qualifications. This means
that you can use a range of qualifications to help get you a
place on an undergraduate course.
• Welsh language courses
As well as being able to take most of the above qualifications
in Welsh, there are also a range of language courses for
people who want to learn Welsh. You can take these in
school, colleges, universities, adult education centres, and
other community centres.
Vocational further education qualifications
Vocational qualifications are work-related qualifications aimed at
giving you the skills and knowledge you will need in employment.
• National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
NVQs give you the opportunity to learn practical, work-related
