Ronneby Brunnspark
Originating from the 18th century, Ronneby
Brunnspark is one of Ronneby’s
most visited tourist attractions, with
e.g. an impressive rhododendron plantation
started in 1910. Today Ronneby
Brunnspark is an idyllic oasis enjoyed
by all for entertainment, outings, walks,
exercise and recreation.
Japanese garden
The Japanese garden has an exotic,
tranquil atmosphere created by stones
symbolizing entire mountain ranges
and by wooden bridges over gravel
that has been raked into patterns
symbolising water. The open pavilion
invites you to a moment’s rest and
meditation.
Scented garden
In a glade in the Brunnsskogen wood
the Scented garden reveals itself
with a sight and fragrance that leaves
no one unmoved. The garden has
exquisitely fragrant flowers chosen to
flower at different times throughout the
growing season.
Brunnshallarna (The Spa Halls)
The Spa Halls offer music and entertainment
for old and young alike.
During the summer months, the famous
flea market attracts many visitors.
Brunnsvillorna (The Spa Villas)
The villas in the park are listed as
historical buildings and have been
carefully renovated. Today they are
used for various purposes, e.g. youth
hostel, cafés, shops and offices.
Opening hours
Ronneby Brunnspark is open throughout
the year and is free of charge.
The history of Ronneby Brunnspark
In 1705, the first spring well was opened
on the banks of the Ronneby river.
In 1727, the present Old Spring
(Gamla Källan) was discovered. The
spring well that exists today was built
in 1846, making it the park’s oldest
building. Spa visitors stayed in Ronneby
and were taken out to the waters
to bathe in and drink the iron-rich and
salubrious water. By 1859, the number
of spa guests had grown to 1 400.
In 1873, both the park and wood were
established and included in the spa
area. Many buildings were erected:
beautiful wooden villas, restaurants,
public baths and the district Brunnsblekan
offering spa guests accommodation.
The number of visitors rose
rapidly and Ronneby brunn became
Sweden’s leading spa resort.
In 1897, the large, impressive spa
hotel was completed. At the same
time, the present spa hall was built,
unique in its kind. Life at the spa resort
was lively and the town of Ronneby
became very famous for its salubrious
water and beautiful surroundings.
Social life flourished and in 1907 there
were 2 774 visitors to the spa.
1939 was the last spa season.
Ronneby brunn then became a place
for tourists and vacation.
In 1959, the large spa hotel burnt
down. A new modern one was built,
completed in 1961.
In 1985–87, the park was restored.
The park and the different gardens
were shaped by Sven-Ingvar Andersson,
landscape architect and professor
at the Swedish University of
Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp.
In 2003, the Brunnspark and the
Brunnsskogen wood became a culture
reservation.
In 2005, the spring well celebrated
its 300 th anniversary and Ronneby
Brunnspark won the honour of being
named Sweden’s most beautiful park.
In 2010 a new aqua park, Ronneby
Brunnsbad opened.
