Permanent, private households<br />
There were 23,601 permanent dwell<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> <strong>Roscommon</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>2011</strong>, an <strong>in</strong>crease of 14.4 per cent<br />
over 2006.<br />
Vacant hous<strong>in</strong>g stock<br />
Vacant dwell<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> the census are split <strong>in</strong>to holiday homes, vacant houses and vacant<br />
apartments. Look<strong>in</strong>g at all vacant dwell<strong>in</strong>gs comb<strong>in</strong>ed, there were 92 towns with a vacancy rate<br />
of 35 per cent or more, of which fifteen were <strong>in</strong> Donegal, thirteen each <strong>in</strong> Kerry and Cork<br />
<strong>County</strong>, while Wexford, Clare and Mayo had n<strong>in</strong>e towns each.<br />
The seaside town of Mullaghmore <strong>in</strong> <strong>County</strong> Sligo had the largest vacancy rate, with four-fifths<br />
of hous<strong>in</strong>g units <strong>in</strong> the town recorded as vacant on <strong>Census</strong> Night.<br />
When holiday homes are excluded Tulsk (51%) and Frenchpark (44%), both <strong>in</strong> <strong>Roscommon</strong>, had<br />
the highest vacancy rates. Four of the seven towns with highest vacancy rates are located <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Roscommon</strong>, which seems to have been particularly affected by vacancy <strong>in</strong> April <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
