Rent paid for private accommodation<br />

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, at €260 per week, had the highest average rent paid to a private<br />

landlord/ voluntary body. At the opposite end of the spectrum households <strong>in</strong> Leitrim, on<br />

average, paid a weekly rent of €94. Average private landlord rents <strong>in</strong> <strong>Roscommon</strong> were €112.<br />

One off hous<strong>in</strong>g<br />

There were a total of 433,564 one off households <strong>in</strong> Ireland, accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>Census</strong> <strong>2011</strong> results.<br />

This equates to a share of 26.3 per cent of all households <strong>in</strong> <strong>2011</strong>, and is down from 27.1 per<br />

cent <strong>in</strong> 2006 and 28.1 per cent <strong>in</strong> 2002.<br />

When exam<strong>in</strong>ed by their period of construction, one-<strong>in</strong>-four of all private dwell<strong>in</strong>gs built s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

2006 were one-off houses. In the case of Donegal, <strong>Roscommon</strong>, Monaghan, Mayo and <strong>County</strong><br />

Galway, one-off houses comprised over 45 per cent of households constructed between 2006<br />

and <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

Around 63 per cent of households <strong>in</strong> <strong>County</strong> Galway were one off houses, the highest <strong>in</strong> the<br />

country. <strong>Roscommon</strong> (57%) and Leitrim (55%) also had a large proportion of this particular<br />

type of house.<br />
