• Led the <strong>RTA</strong>’s involvement with other transport and<br />
planning agencies including the Ministry of Transport, the<br />
Department of Planning, the Department of Environment,<br />
Climate Change and Water, and the Offi ce of the<br />
Coordinator General to ensure a whole of <strong>Government</strong><br />
focus was applied to the provision of road infrastructure<br />
as part of a sustainable and integrated transport and land<br />
use system.<br />
• Represented the <strong>RTA</strong> on a range of high level<br />
committees including the Chief Executive’s Committee,<br />
the <strong>NSW</strong> CEO Transport Cluster, and at the national<br />
level – the Standing Committee on Transport/Transport<br />
Agencies Chief Executives and the Austroads Council.<br />
• Represented the <strong>RTA</strong> at the <strong>NSW</strong> Mobility Forum<br />
(Sydney CBD) in October 2008.<br />
Road development<br />
• Oversaw the management and delivery of the <strong>RTA</strong>’s<br />
$1.8 billion Road Development program.<br />
• Oversaw submissions to Infrastructure Australia to secure<br />
funding for key projects including the Hunter Expressway<br />
and Kempsey Bypass.<br />
• Oversaw negotiations of alliance partnership contracts<br />
for the Lawson Upgrade on the Great Western Highway<br />
and the Inner West Busway.<br />
Road management<br />
• Oversaw the management of the seamless transition of<br />
the Sydney Harbour Bridge to full electronic tolling and<br />
the introduction of time-of-day tolling to the Sydney<br />
Harbour Bridge and Tunnel.<br />
• Continued to lead the provision of effi cient and safe<br />
management of traffi c fl ow on the road network<br />
through effective management of the <strong>RTA</strong>’s Transport<br />
Management Centre and the ongoing development of<br />
incident management strategies and programs.<br />
• Achieved successful coordination of traffi c management<br />
for major events in Sydney including World Youth Day,<br />
New Year’s Eve celebrations and other planned events.<br />
• Continued to work with the <strong>NSW</strong> Ministry of Transport<br />
to ensure the delivery of bus priority infrastructure across<br />
the Sydney Strategic Bus Corridor network, including<br />
completion of 89 projects and the commencement<br />
of the rollout of the Public Transport Information and<br />
Priority System to State Transit Authority buses.<br />
• Oversaw improvement works for the $100 million<br />
Pinch Point program.<br />
• Oversaw the awarding of the construction contract for<br />
M5 East Tunnel Filtration.<br />
• Continued to work with the Department of Environment,<br />
Climate Change and Water to drive improvements to<br />
environmental initiatives such as the <strong>NSW</strong> Diesel Retrofi t<br />
Program and cleaner vehicle technology.<br />
• Continued to oversee the implementation of projects to<br />
address the <strong>NSW</strong> Auditor-General’s recommendations<br />
arising from the report on the Condition of State Roads.<br />
Road use<br />
• Continued to lead the delivery of a range of road<br />
safety programs and initiatives. The combination of road<br />
safety programs has resulted in a road toll of 374 in<br />
2008 (compared to 435 for 2007), representing the<br />
lowest annual fi gure since 1944. The fatality rate per<br />
100,000 population has decreased to a fi gure of 5.4 in<br />
2008 (compared to 6.3 in 2007) and an estimated 0.57<br />
fatalities per 100 million vehicle kilometres travelled<br />
(compared to 0.69 in 2007).<br />
• Continued to oversee the research and implementation<br />
of initiatives to address safer people, safer roads, safer<br />
vehicles and technology such as the Intelligent Speed<br />
Adaptation trial, the development of a Speed Zone<br />
Management system, reforms for Learner, P1 and P2<br />
drivers and public education campaigns on safety.<br />
• Oversaw introduction of a range of new tolling products<br />
and payment methods to increase fl exibility for road<br />
users such as the Easy Toll Tag and Short Term Tag.<br />
• Improved customer and business-to-business accessibility<br />
to services through the introduction of a number<br />
of online services and the availability of automated<br />
transactions at self service kiosks.<br />
• Oversaw a range of road transport legislation<br />
and regulations.<br />
