GM’s Desk<br />
Singapore just celebrated her biggest birthday party, our nation’s 45 years of<br />
independence. The icing of this birthday bash must surely be the successful staging of<br />
the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG). As Singaporeans, we are extremely proud<br />
that we have been able to host the YOG. Our Games Village was even mentioned by the<br />
President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as being on par with the best<br />
Olympic Games Villages that he had visited. Kudos to all our members who have helped<br />
make the YOG a success.<br />
The <strong>Club</strong> did her bit to both celebrate our nation’s 45th anniversary and support the<br />
YOG. <strong>Club</strong> activities were organized which were associated with the numbers 45, such<br />
as a bowling marathon at $4.50 for 3 games. These were met with an overwhelming<br />
response. We supported the YOG by purchasing games tickets for our members who<br />
had participated in CSC’s STAR games. The tickets we purchased for the YOG Closing<br />
Ceremony were also in very high demand, and we needed to ballot out the tickets for<br />
distribution. We thank you for your strong support for this initiative.<br />
To better understand the level of satisfaction members have with CSC facilities and<br />
services, the <strong>Club</strong> conducted a survey in July 2010. We are pleased that CSC received<br />
positive ratings in all aspects that were surveyed. We will use these ratings as the baseline<br />
to benchmark members’ satisfaction in the years to come. We will work harder to up the<br />
level of services and facilities that we provide to our members. Details of the survey can<br />
be found in page 10.<br />
Many of you may have noticed that Samy’s Curry Restaurant<br />
is no longer operating at the Tessensohn <strong>Club</strong>house. In its place,<br />
arcade gaming facilities will be provided. We will also add on a<br />
reading room with sofas, cable TV, along with newspaper and<br />
magazine racks to provide our members with a place for relaxation.<br />
In the same vein of improving our facilities for members’<br />
comfort, members at Tessensohn <strong>Club</strong>house will soon be<br />
able to enjoy the use of the newly renovated toilets beside<br />

the lift lobby in early September, whilst the toilets beside the<br />
staircase landings are being renovated. Adequate signage will<br />
be placed to guide members to these toilets. There is good<br />
news for ladies using the swimming pool changing room. Come<br />
mid-September 2010, the ladies changing room will be torn<br />
down for renovation and upgrading. Ladies can instead use<br />
the newly upgraded men’s changing room, while we request<br />
male members to use other toilets to change instead. We seek<br />
your understanding to bear with the temporary changing room<br />
arrangements for now.<br />

We would also like to take this opportunity to warmly<br />
welcome our new <strong>Club</strong> President, Mr. Peter Ong, who will replace Mr. Peter Ho as Head<br />
of <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>Service</strong>. We would like to thank Mr. Peter Ho for his invaluable support and<br />
guidance, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.<br />
Finally, to all our Muslim members, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and to all those who<br />
celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, I wish you good health and prosperity!<br />
