Queer City Tours<br />
Until 1927, the Old Market in <strong>Salzburg</strong><br />
old town was called Ludwig Viktor<br />
Square, named after the youngest brother<br />
of the former Habsburg emperor.<br />
What this is all about and why the “unloved“<br />
Habsburgs were banished to <strong>Salzburg</strong>,<br />
will be answered in a two-hour<br />
guided tour of the city. This addresses<br />
gay contemporary history and current<br />
issues. The tour leads, for example, to<br />
Rose Hill in the Mirabell garden (see<br />
photo, right.). Around 1600, it was Prince<br />
Archbishop Wolf Dietrich‘s pleasure<br />
garden (Lustgarten) for both himself<br />
and his mistress, Salome Alt. Today it serves<br />
a similar purpose after dark – this<br />
time for homos. The local scene around<br />
the Linzer Gasse is included on the tour<br />
as well as the stumbling blocks laid for,<br />

homosexual<br />
victims<br />
of the<br />
Nazi era. Two hours, which offer interesting<br />
viewpoints and allow <strong>Salzburg</strong> to<br />
