Until 1927, the Old Market in Salzburg
old town was called Ludwig Viktor
Square, named after the youngest brother
of the former Habsburg emperor.
What this is all about and why the “unloved“
Habsburgs were banished to Salzburg,
will be answered in a two-hour
guided tour of the city. This addresses
gay contemporary history and current
issues. The tour leads, for example, to
Rose Hill in the Mirabell garden (see
photo, right.). Around 1600, it was Prince
Archbishop Wolf Dietrich‘s pleasure
garden (Lustgarten) for both himself
and his mistress, Salome Alt. Today it serves
a similar purpose after dark – this
time for homos. The local scene around
the Linzer Gasse is included on the tour
as well as the stumbling blocks laid for,
among
others,
for the
homosexual
victims
of the
Nazi era. Two hours, which offer interesting
viewpoints and allow Salzburg to
