The Second Programme of Community Action in the Field of Health<br />
(2008-2013)<br />
The Second Programme of Community Action in the Field of Health or<br />
the Public Health Programme as it is more commonly known, provides<br />
funds for actions in three key areas: improving citizens’ health security;<br />
promoting health <strong>and</strong> reducing health inequalities <strong>and</strong> generating <strong>and</strong><br />
disseminating health information <strong>and</strong> knowledge. Under the theme of<br />
promoting health, the programme funds actions to promote healthier<br />
ways of life <strong>and</strong> the reduction of health inequalities thus increasing <strong>healthy</strong> life years <strong>and</strong> promoting <strong>healthy</strong><br />
<strong>ageing</strong>.<br />

The Seventh Framework Programme for Research <strong>and</strong> Technological<br />
Development (2007-2013)<br />
FP7 (2007-2013) supports research in selected priority areas, in particular for<br />
health <strong>and</strong> <strong>ageing</strong>. For example, FP7 funds research projects looking such as:<br />
optimising the delivery of healthcare to citizens; enhanced health promotion <strong>and</strong><br />
disease prevention; smarter, more accessible transport systems; demographic<br />
change; <strong>and</strong> ICT for <strong>ageing</strong> well - social robotics <strong>and</strong> highly intelligent<br />
environments.<br />

PROGRESS Programme (2007-2013)<br />
PROGRESS funds European studies, data collection <strong>and</strong> observatories, provides legal <strong>and</strong> policy training,<br />
supports NGO networks <strong>and</strong> runs public awareness campaigns on issues related to anti-discrimination,<br />
social exclusion, poverty <strong>and</strong> equality. Progress funds a number of projects looking at healthcare <strong>and</strong> civic<br />
participation for example.<br />
