Missile No. 4891 was transferred to HADC on<br />
30 January 1957. Following receiving inspection, the<br />
missile and DB-47 No. 51-5220 were prepared for a<br />
scheduled launch flight.<br />
<strong>The</strong> launch mission of 7 March was cancelled<br />
when command contact could not be established. <strong>The</strong><br />
trouble was attributed to intermittent control of the<br />
director aircraft (ATRAS) antenna. On 11 March,<br />
subnormal L-band beacon tracking by the MIRAN<br />
(master ground tracking statlon) resulted in a "hold"<br />
being placed on the launch mission at X-3 minutes.<br />
Postflight investigations trac~ the problem to a defective<br />
beacon antenna connector.<br />
On 13 March 1957, DB-47 No. 51-5220 and GAM<br />
No. 4891 became airborne at 0625 hours MST. In the<br />
climb to altitude (Figure oi), beacon and video. checks<br />
were performed satisfactorily. During the command<br />
