Fe XIV – Intensity, Doppler, Waves • Priority to the Fe XIV ion (530 nm): four times more massive and formed at a true coronal temperature (T = 1.8x10 6 K compared to O VI, 3.2x10 5 K) • The diagnostic of the different type of waves comes from the simultaneous analysis of the modulation of the intensity Ii and of the Doppler shift Δλi according to the following scheme: Modulation Ii Δλi Type of wave No Yes Transverse wave (Alfven) Yes No Longitudinal wave Yes Yes Study phase shift • In the last case, the phase shift of the intensity Ii versus that of the Doppler shift Δλi corresponds to the phase shift of the pressure versus velocity, and characterizes the nature of the wave. For instance, a phase shift of 90 degrees corresponds to an acoustic wave.
