• Open frame towers' designs have been
studied for the facility at Dome C (30 m
tower), double height of DOT tower (15
m), to overcome TGL
• Open dome and open telescope
• Slow wind on tower (3-6 m/s) is a
priori sufficient for mirror and telescope
seeing control
• Free platform/telescope 10xØ8 m 3
(winter-summer change/maintenance)
• Tower stiffness is excellent (double
structure: hexagonal hearth), 0.2" @ 7
Hz, and could be further improved by
damping and frequency control
("elastics" between booms and bars to
shift frequency like on DOT; or DVA to
achieve better than 0.1")
